Drawing for the Winner of the Halloween Blog Party Giveway 5.1: the Haunted Hikes Book

Oh crud. I just realized as I sat down to upload the video of the drawing for the fiberdoodles-inspired Halloween Blog Party Giveaway of the Haunted Hikes of New Hampshire book that I forgot to do something very important. I forgot in the video (videos actually, as I didn’t do it for the Haunted Cemeteries book either) to thank our special guest sponsor, PublishingWorks. I only had these books to giveaway because of them! They generously donated both copies. Dang it! Carol at PublishingWorks, thank you so much again. It was very exciting to receive these books, and VERY wonderful of you to entrust them with me in my giveaway like this. It won’t start until February 12, 2010, but the trailer caught my eye on one of my recent jaunts to the movies. I was impressed with the sets and the cast. Speaking of Robert Englund…

Like I wrote about yesterday, his new project, Fear Clinic, premiers today. But his all time greatest role, one he immortalized, was Nightmare on Elm Street’s infamous villain Freddy Krueger. It inspired me to implement something new, something I enjoy on other people’s blogs: a theme day. So, I introduce to you Movie Monday! From here on out, when and where applicable, I’ll be making Haunts Jaunts to the movies on Mondays. Our first feature is the new Nightmare on Elm Street. Since remaking horror movies always seems to be hot, and since it’s been 25 years or so since the original Nightmare on Elm Street hit the big screen, apparently it’s time to introduce a whole new generation of movie goers to the story of Krueger. Nightmare on Elm Street (the first one … Read entire article »

Winner of the $25 AMC Gift Card

The bad news? I didn’t get to the drawing for the winner of the AMC gift card as early as I’d hoped to today. The good news? At least there weren’t any hiccups with the uploading of the drawing video this time! (But there were plenty of hiccups during the drawing, as you’ll see if you watch the video. For instance, apparently I had Facebook on the brain. I said I’d see you all on Facebook, when I meant to say I’d see you back on the blog. Sheesh!) Robert Englund’s Fear Clinic Premiers Tomorrow

I learned about a new show that’ll debut tomorrow thanks to a post on Screamstress: Fear Clinic. Robert Englund’s not only in it but is directing (yep, that Robert Englund, as in Nightmare on Elm Street’s infamous Freddy Krueger). But he’s also rounded up a couple of other horror movie hot shots, Kane Hodder (Jason from the Friday the 13th series) and Danielle Harris (from the Halloween franchise). Alison at Screamstress summed up the premise best I think: Patients of the Fear Clinic go there to be cured of their most dreaded phobias by undergoing a revolutionary treatment. With a cast like this it has to be good. Seven Tips to Keep Your Fall Haunt Jaunts Safe

There’s nothing that’ll turn a Haunt Jaunt sour faster than an avoidable mishap. Here’s seven tips I thought it wouldn’t hurt to reiterate to keep you safe on your jaunts this fall. (They’re not in any particular order.) Avoid bringing home unwanted guests. I’m not convinced ghosts can follow you home, but some, like Craig McManus who recently wrote about his jaunt to Historic Cold Spring Village, feel ghosts can relocate. My Favorite Halloween Costume

My birthday is 5 days before Halloween. Other than “that explains a lot, Susan” it also means that, as a kid growing up, one of my birthday presents was always my Halloween costume. Even at a young age, I knew that was a bit of a cop-out-rip-off birthday present, but I also knew that money was tight. I was so happy to be getting a costume. It also meant that every birthday was also a tiny costume party of one, starring Me. Now, for a kid who basked in the spotlight, this guaranteed audience of ooo’s and aaah’s was the best present ever. So, my favorite Halloween costume? I honestly don’t recall. Well, I vaguely remember a Wonder Woman outfit. But regardless, I’m … Read entire article »
