Super Light for Spectral Detection

Super Light for Spectral Detection

Confession — it’s all about the day. Sunny day, everything is sharp. Cloudy day, everything is movie-set atmospheric. Either way, we win. Another confession — It was this time of year when I got hooked on researching Wisconsin haunts. Night time chill didn’t matter because we went out during the day. The natural atmosphere of some of the places we explored was ramped up to the nth degree when combined with … Read entire article »

Movie Monday: Foreclosure

I learned about the upcoming movie “Foreclosure” via Alison’s interview with filmmaker Richard Ledes on Screamstress a couple weeks back. I Tweeted about it then, but didn’t feature it for Movie Monday last week because I already had two set to post. (Plus, I knew I’d just be getting back from vacation. This way in case I was scrambled and out of sorts trying to get back in the swing, I’d have something ready to go up.) I think from here on out all haunted house movies are inevitably going to be compared to “Paranormal Activity.” This one’s going to be no different. But since “Foreclosure” is only going to begin to start shooting in March 2010, by the time it’s released the “Paranormal Activity” buzz will have died down some. … Read entire article »

Has Ghost Hunters Jumped the Shark?

Has Ghost Hunters Jumped the Shark?

I admit up front — it could be just me.  I could be going through a seasonal down-swing in my devotion to the whole paranormal reality tv show phenomena.  The shine of Jay and Grant may have dimmed.  The Klinge brothers antics may be inadequate to overcome my malaise.  Zaks’ hair jell and muscle shirts might have lost their edge.  Or it could simply be post Thanksgiving turkey tryptophan narcosis.  Whatever the reason, I have … Read entire article »

Friday Fun: Unique Christmas Gifts

Friday Fun: Unique Christmas Gifts

Continuing the Friday Fun Black Friday Shopping Spree, I decided to put together a list of products I’ve come across that would make unique Christmas gifts. These would make excellent presents for those people in your life that are either (a) hard to buy for because they have everything, or (b) who you want to splurge on a special purchase for. Troll beads – My friend Brenda turned me on to these. Their name is misleading. … Read entire article »

Spending Black Friday Preparing for Cyber Monday: Secrets and Faves

I’m not much of a shopper, but ’tis the season when shopping’s on everyone’s To Do list isn’t it? So, in an effort to make it fun, I thought I’d spend Black Friday preparing for Cyber Monday. (If I can avoid the crowds via the convenience of the Internet to do my shopping, plus save money, you better believe I’m gonna!) While I’m on my Friday Fun Shopping Spree, I figured I’d share a secret for … Read entire article »

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I happen to love Thanksgiving. (And this year more than ever before boy howdy do I have a TON to be thankful for!) But I also know Thanksgiving can bring on a lot of pressures with the family commitments, cooking, eating, not to mention the worrying about blowing the ol’ diet and all the exercise and fasting you’ll have to do to make up for the indulgences. That’s why I always like to have a go to good laugh. (I’m a big believer in the stress-busting powers of laughter.) This was a cute Thanksgiving video I found on YouTube that made me smile as I rocked out to the groovy tunes. I hope, whether you’re stressed or not, that it brings a little humor to your … Read entire article »

Ed Watson’s Last Crop

Ed Watson’s Last Crop

If all has gone as planned, today we should be docked in Key West. (I must confess. I actually wrote this before we left to post while we’re gone. That’s why the “if all has gone as planned” statement.) At any rate, I thought since I was in Florida, I’d share the creepiest Florida ghost story I ever heard: Ed Watson’s last crop. Movie Monday: The Message

It’s another two-fer today for Movie Monday. This second movie trailer, The Message, also came to my attention via a follow on Twitter (by @TheMessageMovie). I don’t know what to make of it. Here’s the tagline: “Does God really want you?” I’m not usually a big fan of movies with strong religious-themed plots. (Like Stigmata or the Seventh Sign. They were okay, but…I’m more Pagan-oriented. Christian-based fears of God and the devil don’t really stimulate my fear center like they do for others with stronger religious affiliations.) So why am I featuring The Message? Because I’m a sucker for underdogs. @TheMessageMovie put out a call for help on Twitter to help them spread the word about their independent, low budget movie. Having found myself in need of promo help every now and … Read entire article »

The Possible Passing of “A Hard Luck and Loss Caper”

Heads Up!  Have you been considering experiencing Caper Company’s first Haunt Spots tour “A Hard Luck and Loss Caper” for yourself?  You may want to go soon.  Recent news articles indicate that the first destination may no longer being accessible as of April 2010.  So, what’s the rush?  This Haunt Spot is all outdoor exploration, so when this spate of good fall weather finally turns winter-foul, it may make outdoor explorations a little more of … Read entire article »

Movie Monday: Underground

This week’s Movie Monday trailer clip, Underground, came to my attention thanks to @NewHorrorFilm following me on Twitter. It reminds me of a cross between C.H.U.D. and the Descent…except these underground beasties live in an underground military bunker. I can’t quite discern from the trailer how the group of friends gets stuck there. Near as I can tell it looks like a bar fight gone awry. I’m not sure I buy that premise, but for the sake of argument (or not arguing as the case may be) I’ll go with it. It could be a fun movie. “Most anticipated horror film experience of 2010″ might be taking it too far, though. (As per it’s YouTube description.) The movie’s website will launch December 1, 2009. It dares all who visit it now to check … Read entire article »

Haunt Jaunting to Key West and Nassau, Bahamas

Haunt Jaunting to Key West and Nassau, Bahamas

Tomorrow Wayne and I leave on our cruise to Key West, Florida, and Nassau, Bahamas. After our trip to Cape San Blas earlier this year, I learned I didn’t do enough due diligence about haunted places there before we left. I changed my strategy this go around. I used the links on my Find Haunted Places page to compile a more thorough list of possible haunts to jaunt to while we’re away this time. Here’s what I … Read entire article »

What’s Up With My Streetlight?

What’s Up With My Streetlight?

Our bedroom windows face the street.  There is one particular window that attracts my attention most nights.  It used to be in the attic, but when the former owners of our 137-year old house gutted the second floor, they opened the ceiling up to attic rafters.  It’s a wonderful, airy feel and now the window that would have peered onto the street from an attic gloom creates wheel-shaped shadow puppets in our bedroom. The shadow it … Read entire article »

An Interview with Dark Artist and Visual Designer Chad Savage

As I told Chad Savage when he said he finally had time to answer my questions and to send ‘em on over, I’m a HUNORMOUS fan of this man’s work. (I initially contacted him at the end of September/the beginning of October. a.k.a. An extremely busy time for anyone involved in the Halloween/haunted attraction industry.) Haunts in Ozaukee and Walworth, WI Counties

There are wonderfully chilling reports of paranormal activity all throughout Wisconsin, and especially in Lake G eneva, Delavan and Whitewater that I suspect are going to make for some creepy Haunt Spots tours. I’m itching to check them out. Same for the Cedarburg, Mequon and Kaukauna areas. So, here’s your heads up — it’s field research time for that countryside and I’m looking for suggestions. What are the ghost stories that you’ve heard for Ozaukee and Walworth Counties? The Caper Company Haunt Spots rules… A — Haunt Spots focus on spaces that the general public can get into — which saddens me a teeny, selfish bit because I adore haunted residence stories. But alas, if I can’t ever send an Explorer there to check it out … Read entire article »

Update on My Warehouse on the Canal Post

Recently I wrote about Warehouse on the Canal after a nice gentleman sent me some info about this allegedly haunted location in Canal Fulton, Ohio. I had sent an inquiry for more info directly to the owners on November 9. I was in such a hurry to write about it that I didn’t wait long for their reply. (I didn’t know if they’d even take me seriously and respond. I figured if they did, I’d just add it later.) Well, they were very nice and responded! Below find my original email and their reply. Celebrating 400 Followers on Twitter!

By TwitterIcon.com Today Haunt Jaunts hit what I think is an impressive mark. I say that because when I started Tweeting back in September I saw friends with 400+ followers and thought, “Wow. I knew it’d take time to acquire followers. At … Read entire article »

Venturing into the Haunted Studio: An Interview with Lew Lehrman, Painter of Dark

I am very pleased and exited to bring you this interview with artist Lewis Barrett Lehrman, Painter of Dark™. If his name sounds familiar it’s because I’ve written about him and his work here before. Noteworthy Blogs: GhostTheory

I have another noteworthy blog to share with you this week: GhostTheory. I’ve had it on my Blogroll for a while, but lately it’s stood out to me because of an article I’m working on. (“Haunted or Hype?” which has spawned more than the original article I hoped to write thanks to all the people I’ve been interviewing for it. More on that later. It’s still a work in progress –or as it stands now “works.”) At any rate, Javier Ortega and his editors (Joe Ruiz and Gary Popella) are passionate about the paranormal. But they’re also skeptical. They just don’t take evidence at face value –anyone’s evidence. For instance, Jason and Grant of Ghost Hunters may be the reigning royalty of the paranormal field currently. A lot of people take their … Read entire article »

LM’s Halloween Haunt Spots Adventure… Part 2 – Are They Not Alone?

And, LM’s Halloween Caper Company Haunt Spots Exploration continues… (More ghoOOOOOOOOOOoooosts!) After WP, we stopped for food at this AMAZING Indian restaurant about 6 miles away from the park. Tiny place, looked kinda sketchy from the outside, but it was incredible. (Royal India Restaurant. Tell your friends.) Two of our group pulled out a notebook and started an impromptu Nepali / Hindi language lesson, which our waiter eavesdropped on and must have decided he liked us. We all got free chai and a free appetizer. I wasn’t sure how much further our group would want to continue, seeing as it was cold and dark and at least two of them were not wearing appropriately warm footwear or coats. I asked them if they wanted to continue to the last location, or just skip … Read entire article »

October was great. There were tons and tons and tons of shows on TV about myth monsters, such as wolfmen, vampires, and Bigfoot. Two shows in particular really grabbed my imagination, though. Movie Monday: Death Do Us Part

Today’s Movie Monday feature, Death Do Us Part, comes to me courtesy of friend and fellow writer Lisa Logan. In addition to writing fiction, she’s also a Senior Acquisitions Editor for Eternal Press and partner in crime with her husband Mike in their film company, Dragonfyre Entertainment. They actually wrote, directed, and produced Death Do Us Part, a short zombie film. (Yeah, yeah, I know. Friday I wrote about zombies. Here I am writing about them again today…Hey, what can I say? Noteworthy Blogs: Fiona Broome’s Hollow Hill

Sometimes a blog just really grabs me. I like it instantly and am hooked just as fast. That’s what happened when I found Fiona Broome’s Hollow Hill. I’m still a relatively new follower. I’m not even sure how I found it. (Likely culprits are either Twitter or Ghost Hunting Theories.) However I found it, I’m glad I did. I dig her style. Both her writing and ghost hunting ones. To illustrate what it is about her style I like, I compiled a list of a few of her posts that in particular I found really interesting or really related to. Recent TV Shows – My friend Jade Walker recently posed an interesting question to me on Twitter regarding TV ghost shows. Friday Fun: Where Oh Where Have All the Scary Monsters Gone?

Friday Fun: Where Oh Where Have All the Scary Monsters Gone?

I thought I’d explore something a little different for Friday Fun today: the demise of scary monsters. As some of you are aware I’m nuts for zombies. I think movies and books based on them are great fun. I also think they’re one of the last of the remaining “classic” creepy monsters. (They became an instant classic upon release of George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, didn’t they?) But witches, ghosts, vampires, mummies and … Read entire article »

Haunt Jaunts Grades Ghost Hunters Academy

Before last night’s premier of Ghost Hunters Academy I’d read SF Universe peg it as the “Hell’s Kitchen for Hunters.” Catchy title. Slighty OT ;) … Have You Done Your Friday the 13th Shopping?

Can you believe it? Friday the 13th is tomorrow! There are so many favorite ways to celebrate this stupendous holiday. Here’s a few… Volunteer at a paraskevidekatriaphobia shelter. Lead the chorus in heart-warming, delusional chanting of “Thursday the 12th, La, La, La, it’s Thursday the 12th, Ho, Ho, Hidee, Ho!” Hey, whatever gets these poor, suffering souls through to Saturday — it’s worth it. If you’re passionate about connecting with the real reason for the season, put on your ‘Agent of King Philip’ costume and walk around your local mall seeking Templar Knights for slaughter. Warehouse on the Canal

On October 25, I received a really neat email from a very nice gentleman by the name of William Mayor about Warehouse on the Canal in Canal Fulton, Ohio. But now things are settling down again and I have had a chance. What’s Your Personal Primary Paranormal Sensitivity?

At a recent gabfest of Caper Company Researchers and Explorers, we told spooky and fun tales of our Haunt Spots experiences.   As we chatted, a thread emerged.  It became obvious that each person had an individual primary type of experience or interaction.  This primary type of experience was not the only thing that happened to people, but it seemed more predominant than others. The Reeds

The Reeds came to my attention last week thanks to a post on Shock Till You Drop. As movies go, especially horror ones, it’s premise is not new: something bad happened somewhere, people died, their ghosts now haunt the place and terrorize all who dare trespass there. But you know what? I kind of liked the trailer I saw. Both an official one on Shock Till You Drop. (I couldn’t embed it, but click here to go see it.) And also the unofficial one that I found on YouTube. (Below. It’s not as good as the one on Shock Till You Drop, but it was still interesting.)
