Phasma Ex Machina Includes Haunt Jaunts in Their “6 Questions With” Series!
When Dane Whitehead of Phasma Ex Machina asked if I’d be interested in being a part of their “6 Questions With” series, I thought that was cool enough. But today I finally had a chance to check emails. (We have friends in and then we got all this snow I’ve just had to play with. I’ve been a bit distracted.) Anyway, Dane sent an email saying that my responses were now live. I’m about to bust I’m so excited. Not just because my answers are up. (That’s awesome in and of itself, and their overall design in general? Insanely cool!) No, I’m about to bust because of who else was included in the series and who I’m rubbing virtual elbows with. Like: Gary Popella of GhostTheory (LOVE both Gary and Javier’s posts. Respect and … Read entire article »

Friday Fun: Albert Einstein or Marilyn Monroe?
Just in time for Friday Fun my friend Brenda sent me a fun email with a sort of ghostly looking image of Albert Einstein. Or is it really Marilyn Monroe? If you’re looking at it from close range, like while you’re seated right in front of your computer, it looks like Albert. But if you get up and move back about 15 feet (per the instructions in the email and from what I found on 123opticalillusions.com)…whoa. Albert … Read entire article »

Haunt Jaunting Around the Blogosphere: Ghost Lounge
Thanks to one of my Google alerts, I stumbled upon a new-to-me blog I figured some of the rest of you might like to know about if you don’t already: Ghost Lounge. The post that came up in my “paranormal travel” Google alert was “Whatever Happened to ‘Most Haunted’ on the Travel Channel?” I was kind of wondering the same thing myself. Not that I was a fan. On the rare occasions I’d watch, I only wanted … Read entire article »

American Paranormal’s “Haunted Prison” Is a TRUE Investigation!
A big shout out goes to Autumnforest for sending me this link: http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/videos/feeds/cv-seo/Science–Technology/American-Paranormal/. American Paranormal sort of quietly burst on the scene, but it’s slowly gaining buzz as it spreads from blogger to blogger and paranormal enthusiast to paranormal enthusiast. There’s two episodes so far: Haunted Prison, which is an investigation of Eastern State Penitentiary where “scientists try to answer the question: what are ghosts made of?” Bigfoot, which examines what Bigfoot may be and has many Bigfoot enthusiasts (such as the Blogsquatcher, see “American Paranormal Bigfoot episode hits it out of the park,”) giving Nat Geo’s treatment of the subject a standing O. It’s similar to some other paranormal TV shows in that, like with the “Haunted Prison” episode, there is a quest to find ghosts. But it’s BY FAR the most authentic effort … Read entire article »

Is This Why Donna LaCroix Was Mad at the Ghost Hunters?
ATrueOriginall left a comment on one of my other posts with an interesting observation. It was in reference to a mention I made on “Noteworthy Blogs: GhostTheory”. In that post I listed some specific GhostTheory articles which I felt made that a noteworthy blog, including “Donna Lacroix Talks: Secrets Behind Ghost Hunters.” In his article, Javier summed up his take on an interview Donna did with the GhostDivas. (Which ended up leading to quite the debacle. … Read entire article »

The Dark Side of the Ghost Hunters Effect
A while back I wrote about the Ghost Hunters effect being an Oprah-esque boon for paranormal tourism. Ghost Hunters has certainly sparked the imaginations of the masses. Smart non-profits found a way to cash in on that by offering ghost hunts to help supplement their revenue streams. However, during my talk with Brooke, SCARED!’s case manager, last Thursday, I learned about the dark side of the Ghost Hunters effect. One I wasn’t aware of. Actually two. Price … Read entire article »

Movie Monday (Rewind): “Dark Moon Rising”
If you’re thinking I already covered Dark Moon Rising on Movie Monday once before, you’re not mistaken. I did. For a refresher, click here. However, last week the movie’s writer/director, Dana Mennie, stopped and left a comment on that post. (Which I copied and pasted below.) He shared some additional info about Dark Moon Rising that I thought some of you might appreciate. Specifically Julie and Autumnforest came to mind, because both left comments about being werewolf … Read entire article »

The Haunted Cottage: A Paranormal Research and Training Facility
The Booth House in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, which locals also know as the “Haunted Cottage of Harpers Ferry,” is about to get a new moniker when it’s opened to the public as the Paranormal History Museum and Paranormal Studies Training Center. Yep, it’s finally happened. A place dedicated to paranormal investigations. How long have I been saying there needed to be a place like this? (Okay, so technically not that long. Only as long as … Read entire article »

Before You Give Up On Ghost Hunting Shows, Give “SCARED!” A Chance
I can almost hear some of you moaning, “Please, Courtney, stop! You’re killing us. Enough with the ghost hunting shows already. Haven’t you covered them ad nauseam this week? Do you really need to tell us about another one?” Yep. This one’s a little bit different from Paranormal Cops, Believers or Ghost Adventures though. (Wow, I really did write about a lot of ghost hunting shows this week, didn’t I?) MY TALK WITH “SCARED!‘S” CASE MANAGER, BROOKE HARAMIJA Brooke … Read entire article »

Friday Fun: Ghost Quizzes
I found a neat blog the other day: Paranormal Videos: Mysteries, Ghost Videos & Stories. They sort of do something a bit different from the rest of the blogs I follow. While they, too, write about ghosts, haunted places, mysterious beasts and UFOs, they include videos with their write-ups. To give you an example of what I mean, I picked several of their posts that particularly appealed to me: Bell Farm – Ten Most Haunted Places Tapes of Real … Read entire article »

Ethics in Paranormal Tourism: The Barwon Ghost Girl Debacle
Okay, it’s been a world wind day of International Haunt Jaunts. As I promised in my first post today, our last stop is Down Under. We’re there because of the photo at left, which was taken while on a ghost tour at Barwon Park mansion in Australia. I snagged a copy of the photo from Gary’s post about it on GhostTheory. Last week there was a big hub bub about it. Rather than reinventing the wheel, I’ll … Read entire article »

What Does the Princess Bride and Ghost Adventures Have in Common?
As I promised in my first post today, my next Haunt Jaunt for the day is Poveglia Island. “What does that have to do with the title of this post?” Glad you asked. I’ll tell you! I’m going to give you some clues at the end of this post. Your mission: to identify the common theme. It involves something happening tomorrow. Specifically, Ghost Adventures and their special 90 minute long version of the Poveglia Island investigation. That’s right, Zak, Nick … Read entire article »

Taking a Werewolf Haunt Jaunt to the Morvan
Today, in honor of Flashes in the Dark posting my story, “Between the Wolf and the Dog,” I’m going to make a sort of a different Haunt Jaunt. In fact, today you might notice an International theme. I’ll launch the journey with this post on France’s Morvan forest. Later this afternoon I’ll jaunt over to Italy’s Poveglia Island. I’ll wrap things up this evening Down Under. This first post might appeal to cryptozoology enthusiasts like Gummerfan the … Read entire article »

Haunt Jaunting Behind the Scenes with “Believers”
Saturday night I had THE best chat with Chris Hambright, the producer for the ghost hunting show Believers. Some of you may be saying, “Haven’t heard of it. What channel is it on?” If you click the link on their name or logo, it’ll take you to their YouTube channel. (For those of you on Facebook, they also have a Fan Page and a Group Page.) Now before you pass judgment, just because they haven’t been picked up … Read entire article »

Paranormal Cops
Just when I thought I’m about as weary as weary can be (not to mention wary…who’s going to try and pull the paranormal wool over my eyes, à la Ghost Hunters, next?) along comes Paranormal Cops. Sigh. Really? Is that what we need? Yet another ghost hunting show? SUCKER OR OPTIMIST? Still, what do I do? No, not watch it. At least not right away. I set my DVR to record it. (Hey, I’ve admitted it time and … Read entire article »

Movie Monday: “Lake Mungo” and “The Horde”
It’s been a while since I made a Movie Monday post. Phasma Ex Machina set a benchmark. I haven’t come across any movies I’ve been as excited about coming out as that one. Until I read “French Zombies, Australian Ghosts, and Ski Lifts” on t5m last week. There were a couple of movies listed that piqued my interest. Specifically “Lake Mungo” and “The Horde.” LAKE MUNGO Deadly Movies was the contributing author to the t5m article. Since it was their description of “Lake Mungo” which made me stand up and take notice of the movie, I figured rather than trying to recreate it I’d just include it here. First person horror is back after the roaring success of ‘Paranormal Activity’, and it suits the paranormal sub-genre well, far better than it does zombies (’Diary … Read entire article »

“Ghost Chicks” – New Show to Watch Next Fall?
Just when I thought it was safe to pick up the remote, I read an article about a pilot for another ghost hunting show: Ghost Chicks. Whatdya think? The photo suggests Charlie’s Angels meets Ghost Hunters. It’s so ridiculous and obvious I may have to watch if the pilot gets picked up and a series is released. And which channel might run it that doesn’t yet have a ghost hunting show? Hmmm…Lifetime, Oxygen, and Bravo are the obvious … Read entire article »

Friday Fun: Chateau GRRR
I listed Chateau GRRR as one of my 20 spots to watch for Paranormal Activity in 2010 earlier in the week. I didn’t give away too much about them then. As promised in that other post, I said I’d be featuring them for Friday Fun, so…are you ready to have some fun? I give you my Money Back Guarantee that you’ll have fun at Chateau GRRR! Will Josh Gates find Leprechauns in Ireland?
We’ll find out when Josh Gates returns with new Destination Truth episodes on March 17 and heads to Ireland in search of leprechauns. (Seriously, on St. Patrick’s Day! Perfect episode for them and totally keeps in line with Josh’s style of humor, don’t you think?) New for Haunt Jaunts in 2010
At the end of last year I couldn’t seem to get posting until I finally got a new look. Voila! I love this WordPress theme. It’s very versatile and I’ve been very happy with it. You might have also noted that recently I’ve been tinkering with ads, widgets and the like. I can’t help it. My blog is a way for me to express myself –and not just via my posts! Anyway, I ended up having some time to do more tinkering while I waited on in-from-out-of-town friends to arrive. Since they took way longer than anticipated, I ended up tinkering the whole day! Holy crumb, did I get stuff done! So what’s new? Let me tell you! Logo/Badge – Now you can display a Haunt Jaunts badge on your site or sidebar! This … Read entire article »

20 Spots to Watch for Paranormal Activity in 2010
I decided to compile a list of 20 spots to watch for paranormal activity in 2010. Not real paranormal activity, mind you. Rather, blogs and sites that focus on paranormal phenomenon and happenings. Even though there are hundreds of paranormal blogs and sites out there, it’s not always easy figuring out which ones are worth following. Hence, my list. It won’t be for everyone. I’m geared towards a definite paranormal tourism slant. But these are the top … Read entire article »

Will Elvis’s Ghost Appear for His 75th Birthday Celebration?
This morning on Today I watched Matt Lauer talk with Priscilla Presley about Elvis’s 75th birthday and some of the celebrations Graceland has planned in honor of that event. I couldn’t help but wonder, “Will Elvis’s ghost show up at all?” Especially when Priscilla said, “I can visualize him coming down that staircase every time I come in. His spirit is definitely here.” That’s all it took to get my juices stewing. So I spent the morning … Read entire article »

Friday Fun: Entities-R-Us
I haven’t done a Friday Fun post the past couple of weeks because I figured Christmas then New Year’s, which both fell on Fridays, were enough fun themselves. However, to kick off 2010, I thought I’d present you with something sure to appeal to your paranormal sensibilities as well as tickle your funny bone: Entities-R-Us, the ghost hunter comic. I’ve been following on Twitter (@EntitiesRUs) almost since I first joined in Sept. 2008. It appealed to … Read entire article »

Talking Haunt Jaunts with Autumnforest of Ghost Hunting Theories
Now that I’ve established some relationships with a few other bloggers, I thought it’d be fun do something different in 2010: talk with them about Haunt Jaunts (and a few other things). To kick things off, I picked one of my favorites: none other than the Haunt Jaunts Best of 2009 Award Winner for Best Theories, Autumnforest of Ghost Hunting Theories. Our Q&A follows below. 1. One of your theories is about geomagnetic activity affecting paranormal activity. I don’t … Read entire article »

Will Nessie’s Death Kill Tourism in Loch Ness Region?
Today Gary at Ghost Theory posted “The end of Nessie: Researchers fear Loch Ness monster may be dead.” Gary started off his article saying how, as a kid, the idea of the Loch Ness Monster fascinated him. Me too. But, also like Gary, the older I’ve gotten the less inclined I’ve been to believe something could exist that long and go undetected. However, being the optimist that I am, I always held out hope that eventually something … Read entire article »

Haunted Ski Resorts
Now that winter’s well underway, maybe your thoughts have turned to a Haunt Jaunt where you can also hit the slopes. I grew up in Colorado, so I grew up hearing about a couple of haunted ski resorts. (The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park popped in my mind first and foremost I have to admit.) But I got to thinking that it’d be fun to see just how many haunted ski resorts I could come across. So … Read entire article »

Key West’s Robert the Doll
It depends on who you talk to in Key West, but some know one of their more interesting characters as Robert the Haunted Doll, while others prefer to call him Robert the Enchanted Doll. No matter what adjective they ascribe to him, they all know about Robert the Doll. As I wrote about in “Beating Winter’s Cold in Haunted Key West,” I knew nothing of him until I stopped and talked to the man manning the … Read entire article »

Beating Winter’s Cold in Haunted Key West
I don’t know about where you live, but it’s cold here in Nashville today. Not as cold as a lot of other parts of the country, but darn cold compared to what it should be. Our highs the last couple of days (upper 20s, low 30s) have been what our average lows are for this time of year. Brrrrrr! Don’t get me wrong. I relished watching the snow flurries earlier this morning as I sipped my … Read entire article »

What’s Ahead for Haunt Jaunts in 2010?
I didn’t visit a psychic, nor am I one (just a sensitive), so this isn’t a prediction of what I expect to come Haunt Jaunts way in 2010. Rather, it’s a sneak peak of some of the stories I plan to write about in the year ahead, as well as a road map of the direction I’d like to see Haunt Jaunts go. I sure do look forward to making more Haunt Jaunts now that I’m … Read entire article »
