Is it just me or does 2019 seem like it’s the year of horror movie reboots, remakes and sequels?

Let’s take a look at ones that have been released and ones still yet to come.

  13. It Chapter Two – Sequel – Releases September 5, 2019
  14. Zombieland Double Tap – Sequel – Releases October 11, 2019

I’m not sure that’s all of them, but these are the ones I know of to date. (If you know of others, by all means feel free to Check-In and let me know!)

I didn’t count La Llorona, even though I was tempted, because while it’s not really a sequel, it is part of the Conjuring universe. That seems like it should count in the sequel column.

More or Less

I’ve never tallied up the reboots, remakes and sequels like this before so I don’t know if this is more or less than years past. It may just be I’m paying attention and it seems like it’s more.

Another thing it seems like is that it’s been a good year for horror overall. Reboots, remakes and sequels aside, there’s been a lot of horror movies to indulge in –be it on the Silver Screen, or binging wherever, whenever on whatever device you choose.

Here’s a look at the list of what’s been released so far, as well as others still yet to come…

The above isn’t a complete list. I tried to hit the bigger ones. And, again, I might have left off some I just don’t know about. If you clue me in to any, I’ll update the above list.

But it’s exciting to see so many, right? There are hundreds of movies released each year, but I can remember a time when five or ten horror movies released in a year was a big deal.

Between the two lists above, that’s 40!

Although, once upon a time there wasn’t also streaming like what it’s evolved into today, so that helps too. And thank goodness for it! It gives us horror movie lovers more places to get our fixes.

As seen in our Para & Horror Pins list in our Skareporium

  1. Firstly, I had NO idea that La Llorona was in the Conjuring universe! Thank you for that info.

I don’t know about reboots/remakes but I love sequels! I can’t wait until Conjuring 3 comes out next year (although I’m not keen on the case they take on, in the movie).

So now I have to go see what the case will be…I know I read about it but I can’t remember. lol
