50 States of Fright Season 2: The Next 4 States Revealed

50 States of Fright is a horror anthology television series on Quibi, a streaming phone app. The series explores scary urban legends and myths in each state.

Season 1 premiered in April 2020 and covered the following five states:

1. “The Golden Arm” (Michigan)
2. “America’s Largest Ball of Twine” (Kansas)
3. “Scared Stiff” (Oregon)
4. “Grey Cloud Island” (Minnesota)
5. “Destino” (Florida)

Because I knew season 2 would be launching in the Fall, I ventured a guess about which states the series would tackle next. My picks were based on some of spooky season’s most popular places, such as:

• Massachusetts (Salem?)
• Louisiana (New Orleans?)
• New York (Sleepy Hollow?)
• Nevada (Las Vegas?)
• California (Long Beach? Or maybe good old Hollywood?)

Season 2 started streaming on September 28. Some of the stories have been announced. So how did I do in the prediction department? Are any of the states I guessed part of 50 States of Fright season 2?

Let’s take a look.

The States

I don’t know if there will be a total of five states again in this newest release of stories, but I did find four states and the tale titles in an IGN article about it. They are:

1. “Almost There ” (Iowa)
2. “13 Steps to Hell” (Washington)
3. “Red Rum” (Colorado)
4. “Dogwood-Azalea” (Missouri)

Looks like none of my predictions came true.

The Episodes

Thanks to a Gofobo screening, I saw the “Almost There” episode that takes place in Iowa. It stars Taissa Farmiga (from another horror anthology, American Horror Story) and Ron Livingston (Office Space, The Conjuring). It was very dark and disturbing, not to mention gory, but it was also very interesting. It’s set in a wind turbine.

I’d never thought about what might be at the top of the inside of a wind turbine before. I can honestly say I never expected a horror story to take place in such a setting or to be so good. But it was.

I’m also torn about how I feel about the Colorado episode. Thanks to Stephen King, the Stanley Hotel is now so closely associated with “Colorado” and “haunting” that many other great ghostly tales from the state are ignored. I grew up in Denver. I can tell you from my experiences at Cheeseman Park that the Stanley Hotel is not the only haunted place in the state. But it is definitely the most well known and sought after to see now.

I get it. But I am sort of disappointed they put a Stephen King spin on it. I’ll have to see if it’s any good before I get all judgy though.

I do know Christina Ricci stars in that tale though. What other big names can we expect to see in season 2?

The Cast

So far we already know we can expect to see Taissa Farmiga, Ron Livingston, and Christina Ricci in the Iowa and Colorado episodes. But who else stars in this season? Any other big names?

Yes!

Rory Culkin is in the “13 Steps to Hell” (Washington) episode, along with Lulu Wilson (The Haunting of Hill House and Ouija: Origin of Terror, both Mike Flanagan productions).

Another The Haunting of Hill House alum, Elizabeth Reaser, appears this season too. In the “Dogwood-Azalea” (Missouri) episode along with William B. Davis (who many will recognize as “The Smoking Man” from The X-Files.)
