Recently it seems like every day or every other day there’s news about a new haunted house horror movie or TV show coming out, be it in theaters or to a streaming service. The newest one was Every House is Haunted.
I’d include it on the following list, except all we know about it so far is that we can expect to stream it sometime in the future. As Screen Rant reported, “Netflix outbid several other outlets…to acquire the rights to the Sam Raimi-produced horror movie.”
While we wait to learn more about Every House is Haunted, we’ve got these six other haunted house horror movies and TV shows to keep us occupied because most of them are coming soon. In fact, very soon. All but one will release and/or start streaming in April. Let’s check them out.
1. Them: April 9, Amazon
Them is a forthcoming Amazon original limited horror anthology series that explores terror in America. The first season, Them: Covenant, looks wicked spooky on multiple levels. I instantly felt Lovecraft Country vibes, and others are noting distinct Jordan Peele comparisons too. (But it’s executive produced by Little Marvin with Lena Waithe.)
It centers on the Emory family, a black family from North Carolina headed to their promising new home in Los Angeles. Except they immediately realize they can’t outrun racism in their all-white neighborhood. “Their idyllic home becomes ground zero where malevolent forces, both next door and otherworldly, threaten to taunt, ravage and destroy them.”
If you’re a Prime member, you can already add Them to your list.

2. The Inheritance: April 13, On Demand and DVD
The Inheritance looks to be taking more the classic haunted house movie approach in that a young woman inherits a marvelous old house in Kiev. She intends to sell it but instead feels drawn to it. Except there are a couple of problems. One, what’s up with the locals? Two, she realizes the house has secrets that involve a grisly murder.
3. The Banishing: April 15, Shudder
The Banishing gives off The Haunting of Hill House vibes mixed with a touch of The Others. But it sounds like it’s its own beast entirely.
According to the description on its YouTube trailer, it’s about “the true story of the most haunted house in England.”
It stars Jessica Brown Findlay and John Heffernan as “a young reverend and his wife” who “move into a manor with a horrifying secret. When a vengeful spirit haunts their little girl and threatens to tear the family apart, the reverend and his wife are forced to confront their beliefs. They must turn to black magic by seeking the help of a famous Occultist…or risk losing their daughter.” (Sean Harris plays “the famous Occultist” Harry Price.)
The “true story” aspect of this one is what will likely appeal to many, but so far it’s not gotten great reviews on IMDB. (4.5 out of 10). Still, since I still subscribe to Shudder I have a feeling I’ll be checking this one out.
4. Things Heard & Seen: April 29, Netflix
Things Heard & Seen is a cursed house supernatural murder mystery starring Amanda Seyfried and James Norton. Seyfried plays Clare, a young wife who moves with her husband from the big city to a small Hudson Valley town where she finds both her husband and their house may be harboring dark secrets.
5. The Resort: April 30, Theaters and VOD
Okay, The Resort isn’t exactly a haunted house movie, but The Shining is often counted in that category too, and this one also involves a hotel so…I’m including it in this list.
Basically, a group of friends treat their writer friend who’s obsessed with the paranormal to a haunt jaunt to a resort in Hawaii that was forced to shut down and is now abandoned. Why was it forced to shut down? Does it have something to do with the ghost called the Half-Faced Girl? Or is she just a rumor?
6. The Night House: July 16, Theaters
The Night House looks completely twisted —because it seems to involve not one haunted house, but two! It stars Rebecca Hall as a widow grieving her husband’s sudden death in the lakeside house he built for her. But what was he actually doing? She discovers secrets he was keeping from her. Will they explain the presence she feels in the house or the exact duplicate of their house where everything is reversed?
And most importantly, will it answer the riddle dropped in the trailer? “You were right. There is nothing. You’re safe now.”

Which of these do you think has the potential of becoming an instant classic and finding its way onto the Best Haunted House Horror Movies Of All Times list?
Or are you waiting to watch and see how they’re received before casting judgment or getting too hopeful?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
Oh, I’m terrible at predicting which movies have staying power. I mean, the classic Fiend Without a Face is totally implausible and has a silly-looking creature, but I love the movie! Still, I think Things Heard and Seen sounds awesome.
Fiend Without a Face…I have never seen it but will now be on the lookout because I’m super curious to see it now. Thanks for the tip!
