7 Mysterious Places in the World With Difficult Explanations

This is a guest contribution by Freddie Tubbs.

The fact remains that, over time, humans have become attracted to strange and mysterious places. Fascinating and mysterious places are in almost every part of the world and are just waiting to be found. Amongst all these amazing mystiques, we have elected to explore seven.

1. Aokigahara, Japan

The Aokighara Forest in Japan is also known as the Suicide Forest. This stems from the fact that it is widely believed that over 500 people have taken their own lives within the forest. Over time, there have been many reported cases of apparitions and haunting felt by visitors within the forest. However, the forest is regarded as being a very enchanting one mainly due to the haunting which makes it unique.

The Forest, a movie shot in 2016 recorded and showed the spookiness of this forest which can be found at the foothills of Mount Fuji, Japan.

2. Racetrack Playa/Sailing Stones, Death Valley

The activity that happens in Sailing Stone, Death Valley, California is indeed a mystery. As the name implies, this site features a rock sailing off.  However, the mysterious fact is that this rock sails off without any human interference. The first indication of this mystery was in 1915 when a track was noticed indicating the movement of a stone on dry land by itself.

“Further studies have been made about this strange movement; however, some people are of the opinion that it is a mystery while some others believe that the movement is due to formation of ice around the rocks which makes for a slippery interface. However, this is still not completely proven” says Reta Ellis, a Travel blogger at UK Writings and Boom Essays.

3. Blood Falls, Antarctica

A snowy mountain with a blood bath in the center is never a common sight. Here, there is a blood red waterfall that constantly stains the Taylor Glacier.

The mysterious phenomenon is due to the fact that the flowing water always has a red hue. Microbiologists and Glaciologists have tried to explain this phenomenon by attributing it to the large amount of iron in the water. The flow of the water from the lake makes it appear like blood is flowing into the water, therefore giving it a mysterious look.

4. Eternal Flame Falls, Orchard Park, New York

In the Shale Creek Preserve, which is part of the Chestnut Ridge Park, you can find a sight that would definitely give you the creeps. Within a small waterfall in the park, you can find a flickering flame. The flame is easy to miss but upon staring at the flame, it begins to burn much brighter.

This is due to the large amount of methane gas that is present, which makes it flammable. The actual magic, however, is watching the flames go out and come back on by itself. The fighting flames also strike a very image within the waterfall.

5. Longyearbyen, Norway

Experiencing few months of daytime without nighttime downright sounds out of place! However, this is exactly what happens at a Norwegian archipelago that can be found in the North of the Greenland in the Arctic Sea. This particular location only experiences daylight from April 20 to August 23 every year.

During this period, the sun is always in the sky and never sets, therefore the people there do not get to experience any starlit spring or summer nights.

6. Magnetic Hill, Ladakh, India

This particular location tends to pull vehicles travelling along its path. The mysterious Magnetic Hill runs along a small stretch of road on the Sringar-Leh highway. The major mysterious characteristic of this hill is the fact that it draws cars.

“While passing through this road, if you turn of your car and place it on Neutral, the car would start to move on its own an at a steady speed of 20km/hr. There is still no explanation for this,” explains Sandy Chung, a Travel writer at Essay Roo and Big Assignments.

7. Old Faithful, Yellowstone National Park

One other mysterious location is the Old Faithful Geyser at Yellowstone National Park. There are a number of active geysers and hot springs, but Old Faithful is the most famous. The eruptions are very regular and take place every 55 to 12o minutes and last between two to five minutes.

The eruptions are exciting, which draws a lot of visitors.

Of all the mysterious sights in the world, these are just a few. Their unique events were worth mentioning –and seeing. Next time you’re planning a vacation, you should consider these places.
