Recap of HJ’s “Soul Chat” Radio Appearance

Well, my first radio appearance as one of the Paranormal Panelists on Soul Chat with Sandiee’s Thanksgiving Special didn’t go as smoothly as I hoped. I didn’t know if I should Skype in or wait to be Skyped in to start. Thankfully Phil cleared me up, moments before Sandiee dialed me up. (Sometimes I’m entirely too passive for my own good.)

Then there was some feedback. I panicked I might be causing it somehow, even though I had everything I could possibly have off. It turned out not to be me, but I did need a headset. Luckily I knew where one was and popped it on. Lesson learned number one.

Apparently you can IM/SMS via Skype while on a conference call. Thankfully I didn’t see that feature until the very end of the show. I started typing and Sandiee quickly typed “Stopped!” (We weren’t quite off air yet.)

Phil from Shadow Chasers quickly explained that’s one of the things the “mute mic” feature came in handy for.

GAH! All I could think was “Great. Phil and Kate were nice enough to get me this spot, and I blow it with my blundering ways.”

So…it didn’t go as smoothly as I hoped on my end.

However, I learned some super fascinating things from the other panelists:

  1. Brian Hensley of Crossover Paranormal was one of the guests. (Terri from Entities-R-Us was supposed to be on. Don’t know what happened to her.) Brian was actually on investigation somewhere during the show. I believe it was Madison TWP School where a portion of Children of the Grave II was filmed. (A Booth Brothers production, which Crossover Paranormal was a part of.) I thought that was pretty cool.
  2. Craig Rupp, a ghost investigator and Radio Host for the Paranormal View on Para-X radio, was HILARIOUS! He had to follow up Brian when we were introducing ourselves. He said what I was thinking, “How do I follow that?” I found it interesting he had investigated abandoned tunnels in Pennsylvania where they filmed part of the The Road. As he joked, he’s a “psychic brick” and never picks up vibes of the type Sandiee gets, but that place with blood stained concrete and doll heads left him ill at ease. (I wanted to chime in, “Dolls heads are freaky. That in itself would be disturbing.” But I figured I better keep mum. I had already had enough debacles.)
  3. Sandiee had been broadcasting for a year now. It was sort of like an anniversary show. Phil and Kate from the New York Shadow Chasers were actually her first guests. I thought that was neat they were sort of helping her celebrate in a way.
  4. Speaking of Phil and Kate, I dig them enormously but my admiration grew after learning they got into ghost hunting by way of anthropology research. They were doing historical research which aimed to preserve historic sites, and that morphed into preserving historic places with paranormal activity. Very cool.
  5. I also liked how Kate mentioned NYSC breaks investigation groups into male teams and female teams because they tend to get the best results that way. Particularly when it comes to EVPs.
  6. There was a lot of talk about ghost cats, especially one Kate and Phil have come across at the Farnham Mansion.
  7. Sandiee asked a great question: Do you ever ask spiritual questions of entities you seem to be making contact with? She wished they’d do that more on the TV shows, but Phil said he didn’t believe they could for fear it would bias their audience. Kate said she didn’t really want to know about the other side. She was happy to have it be more of a surprise. Craig mentioned he’d gotten a couple of EVPs saying, “Heaven.” I thought it was a really interesting question with very interesting answers. Everyone felt differently about it. I think if I investigated in a more traditional sense, I’d ask these kinds of questions. I’d want to know.
  8. I mentioned one weird experience I’d had with an audible using Ghost Radar. But I didn’t think it was that app. I thought it was something else. I didn’t have my iPod handy to clarify. After checking it now, I realize it was Ghost Radar that had kept saying “banana” over and over again one day. Something that was significant to me because of my mom and her Cheerios that she always had to have with bananas. (She had dementia and when  we moved her here with us we had to make sure to have bananas on hand for her.) The Ghost Radar had never repeated “banana” like it had the one day when I was really missing my mom and was goofing off with it.
  9. I found new people to follow! Craig Rupp on Twitter at @CraigRParaView, Sandiee on Facebook, Crossover Paranormal on Facebook. (I was already following Sandiee on Twitter –@PsychicSandiee– as well as the New York Shadow Chasers on both Twitter and FB — @ShadowChasers & New York Shadow Chasers.)

It was a really good group. There was a lot of laughter. I wish I hadn’t been as discombobulated as I was, but Sandiee was a great host. If you missed the show, she archives them for later listening. Be sure to check her site to hear her other Soul Chat shows: www.sandiee.com.
