I pick on “reality” paranormal TV shows a lot. I started out a huge Sci Fi (back when it went by that name) and Ghost Hunters fan. Then Ghost Hunters changed and so did Syfy, right about the same time. I haven’t watched Ghost Hunters in years.

In fact, these days I’m pretty harsh on reality paranormal shows in general, most especially Syfy’s. The last one I sort of liked was Fact or Faked. I gave it a few episodes but never fell in love with it. I ended up getting totally disgusted with it five minutes into the episode where they were headed to the Whaley House. So much so I flipped the channel right then and vowed not to watch the show anymore.

I haven’t even bothered with any other of Syfy’s offerings. (Along the reality line that is. I’ll occasionally watch one of their original movies, if it’s not too laughable or outrageously far-fetched.)

But there is one exception to the Syfy lineup that I still love. One that has been absent from their programming far too long now. Destination Truth.

Maybe it’s because I don’t expect to be educated at all watching it. (Though, I do find myself learning a thing or two here and there.) No, I tune in for the pure entertainment value. (Oh, okay, I’ll admit it. Josh Gates isn’t hard on the eyes either.)

Like other “Truthies,” I’m looking forward to tonight’s episode. Or episodes I should say. Looks like Syfy’s treating us to back-to-back new ones, starting with “Vietnam’s Bigfoot” for the first hour and “Return to the Haunted Forest/Belize Goblin” for the second.

That’s right. Two full hours. Rock on!

Also, Ryder’s back. I love her. She kicks ass.

Summer’s going to sizzle a bit more now. But this is the kind of hotness I don’t mind being exposed to. Welcome back, DT!

  1. Hi, my name is Kim and I’m a Truthie. LOL Perhaps it’s the fact that DT claims to be more of a travel/adventure show than a paranormal show? While they look into paranormal phenomena, they really focus a lot on the travel & cultural aspects of their cases.

LOL, Kim! You CRACK me up! (I know you’ve never read that from me before, right?) I think you might’ve hit the nail on the head why DT is so appealing. (Aside from the fact Josh is a hottie.) It IS more of a travel/adventure show. They just happen to jaunt in search of haunts and beasties and other abnormal things. Right up our alley, eh? THX for the comment!

  3. 🙂 I think that has a lot to do with why I like DT so much more than the others. It shows the journey can be as interesting as the destination. They don’t claim to be the best at what they do, or that their way is the only right way to go about investigations, etc. And, as Josh has said in numerous interviews, his ultimate goal with the show is to inspire people to travel the world more, explore, experience different cultures, learn about their ways, and their myths and legends.

Josh and Ryder have to be my favorite people on TV. They’re so down to earth and humorous, entertaining. But at the same time, they’re both intelligent, very active, go-getter type personalities, which inspires me to get out of my house more! Even if just exploring my own local area on my two wheels & enjoying the journey. And of course, they’re both attractive too, which doesn’t hurt. LOL The both of them on DT Fan Radio this week (Josh on Monday night and Ryder last night) were fun, hilarious really, but also had some awesome info to share. 🙂

You know, I dig that explanation of them and why I like them. They’re so silly. They aren’t out there being the best and penultimate monster hunters. In the end, they’re having a lot of fun. That shows through. And I’m so with you. They make me want to get out and explore more. Also like you said, even if it’s just right here in my own backyard. (Which is about as far as I’ve been able to go this year with Mr. Meow’s health and my tennis schedule.) Would’ve like to listen to them on that show, but I’ve been so out of the loop. Haven’t even touched twitter in weeks. Out of it. 🙁
