When I shared the link about the reader seeking advice on trip planning to haunted New Orleans on HJ’s Facebook page, I got a great comment from a Jaunter named Alyne. She lives in New Orleans and had some fantastic insights to share about enjoying the paranormal tourism there.
She left a couple of comments. I decided to cut and paste them to share them in a quick and easy addendum. Here’s what she offered up:
Comment #1: I’m in New Orleans and I suggest you post an update telling your visitors that if they want a truly haunted hotel book Room 37, 42 or 47 at the St. Peter House – NOTE IT HAS CHANGED ITS NAME BUT THIS IS THE NUMBER 504.524.9232 – and I can assure them they will experience activity. Room 37 is the death room of rocker Johnny Thunders and since my investigation there, whatever “thing” haunted there now also frequents the other two rooms mentioned. The rate should be reasonable and tell them to talk to Heidi. The most qualified tour guides are with French Quarter Phantoms. The tours are intimate and groups kept small. Contact Cindi Richardson at 504.666.8300 and they can tell her I referred them. Cajun Encounters does an excellent cemetery tour but tell them for a real taste of a hoodoo burying ground to take a cab to Holt Cemetery, located behind Delgado Community College on City Park Avenue any day before 2:30 pm. They will NOT be disappointed. Their tour guides can point them to other venues but since NO is so very old literally anywhere they go is likely to be haunted! Tell them never travel alone at night. Crime is rampant here, despite what some others might say!
Comment #2: Add The Mortuary to the list. A former funeral home now a paranormal destination, it’s located near the crossroads of Canal St and City Park Avenue on the Canal Street streetcar line. Not far from Holt, either.
Thanks so much again, Alyne, for taking the time to share this!
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
Nice to know these things. I am hoping to visit New Orleans next year.
Good news. I’m always looking for hotel hauntings!
You sure do, Jessica! I think that should be your next book! “Hotel Hauntings of…” and make it a series. 😉
YAY! I hope you get there, Julie!
