First Person Fridays: Lindsay’s Haunted House

Welcome to our very first First Person Fridays post! This one comes to us by way of Lindsay G. It’s a little unusual in that she’s sharing with us a conversation she was having on Facebook about her haunted house.

LINDSAY’S STORY

This true story about the ghosts in my house was taken from a message on Facebook.

Lindsay what kind of activity do you come across in the house?

Lindsay G.

All sorts. It would take me a decade to tell you all of it, but here are a few things: One night I came home from Cape Cod on a visit, said hello to my recently deceased father, and asked him to give me a sign of his presence. Went upstairs for a spell, and came back downstairs to find a heavy beer stein that was pushed way back on a top shelf, in the middle of the floor with its contents spilled all over the floor (my dad collected lapel pins). Now, I had just walked through that room, and nothing had been on the floor! Strangely enough, the beer stein made absolutely no noise when it fell!

Then, another time (this happened twice) My mother came home, put her car keys in the usual spot she always puts them in, and woke the next day to find them gone. She began searching, when suddenly something told her to look in coat pockets. She finally looked in a very old coat, which hadn’t been worn in years, and there they were! Both times the keys were found in this same coat.

Okay, now this scares me a little bit…quite often my bed will begin moving and vibrating while I’m sleeping. I usually wake up, freeze, and can’t move. I have also, during a spell when I was in my 20’s, experienced poltergeist activity which was also quite scary. This went on for several weeks. I would get in bed, and as soon as I would begin falling asleep, this horrendous pounding would begin. In the walls, rattling the windows and making the floor shake. My mattress was on the floor at the time, so I could feel it quite well. The pounding would go on for hours, but I was too afraid to seek out the source.

Now, mind you, no one else in the house heard this, not even the dog!

It was directed at me. Finally, one night I heard a tremendous BOOM, which sounded like an explosion, so I got out of bed and went downstairs, cause I had had it. I went down there, and to my shock and surprise, found the back door was standing wide open. Mind you, this was in the middle of the winter. We never sleep with our doors open or unlocked. I had checked it right before bed. It was shut, latched, and locked, yet there it was standing open! After that, the pounding stopped.

We also sometimes hear disembodied voices, in the forms of muffled conversation going on between several men. We can hear it loud and clear, but cannot make out the words. This usually happens at night, but one day, we were sitting watching TV, and both my mother and I heard two women talking in the living room, carrying on a conversation, which, again, we could not make out. This was during the day. We both looked at each other and asked “Did you hear that?” and both of us agreed we had heard it.

At other times we’ll hear soft, quiet music while in bed at night. It usually sounds like rock and roll, which is mainly what my dad had listened to. One time, on Memorial day, late at night, we heard a marching band outside in the street. Many Revolutionary war soldiers have died around my area. My mother used to be a skeptic…but now she believes and agrees with me that this old house is indeed haunted.

I have many other strange stories, so many that I could write a book.
