Over the weekend I received a message from Thom Burgess of The Ghoster Project. He wanted to introduce me to a project he’s been working on and the trailer he’s recently finished. He asked me to have a look. I agreed and decided it’d be something fun and different to feature for Movie Monday.

I don’t normally choose anime-type movies or graphic novels for entertainment. I have a few friends who are huge anime fans. Once in a while they’ll pass something my way and I find myself enjoying it, but as a  general rule I don’t seek it out. (Which is sad, right? Take the The Walking Dead for example. Was instantly excited about the series when AMC first started advertising it’s premier a few years back. Had no idea at that time the series was based on comic books. This is the sort of stuff I miss out on…)

Maybe that’s why I agreed to take a look at Thom’s project. That and the subject matter. Here’s part of his message.

I hope you don’t mind the random message. I’m a huge fan of your blog, and I’m currently working on something which I think could be potentially of interest.

I’m a designer/animator and have recently finished my animatic trailer pitch for a new ghost story graphic novel/film concept called ‘Ghoster’. It’s a British Ghost story with a twist.

Ghoster has been over 10 years in the making and tells the story of James who on the cusp of his 21st birthday inherits the mantle of ‘Ghoster’ of the British Isles through his recently deceased grandfather. Official spiritual bodyguard to the royal throne, diplomats of the UK and public.

In taking the role, he encounters a hidden world where technology borders on the supernatural and old traditions dictate the flow of new power. Also where a conspiracy will threaten both him, his family name and the royal family.

Okay, so flattery will get you everywhere. It helped he started off by complimenting Haunt Jaunts.

But the story sounds interesting right? I’m not sure the trailer quite conveys the intent of the story, however the imagery is haunting and beautiful and the animation is dynamic. (See the synopsis page on the Ghoster Project site. It provides an excellent –and exciting– idea of what the story is about.) The trailer does pique my interest though. And that’s mission accomplished, since that’s what trailers are meant to do, right?

Have a look and see what you think.
