David Oman reached out to me in May about investigations and ghost tours he would be having at his house in June. The trouble was, I let the email get buried in my inbox so I wasn’t able to share his June paranormal investigation dates.

However, he very graciously accepted my apology and informed me he had added two more dates in July: Friday July 8 and Saturday July 9. (Which is also listed in the Paracons & Horror Fests section.)

WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT THE OMAN HOUSE?

David and his father built the house in 1999. So, yeah, it’s a newer house. But…

The same saying that applies to buying good property applies to haunted real estate: it’s all about location, location, location.

Besides, as any Poltergeist fan can attest, the age of the home doesn’t matter. The history of the land does.

The Oman House was built less than 200 feet from what was 10050 Cielo Drive. (I say “was” for a reason that I’ll get to below.)

If you’re like me, the address itself probably carries no significance. But what if I told you that was where Sharon Tate, Wojciech Frykowski, Abigail Folger, Jay Sebring, and Steven Parent were murdered by the Manson Family on August 9, 1969?

Are some of the spirits of those dearly departed souls frequenting the Oman House? Because it seems something is…

ACTIVITY AT THE OMAN HOUSE

I found an article on LA Weekly called “The Ghosts of the Manson Murders, Next Door to Where Sharon Tate Was Killed.”

David Oman told the reporter that while the house was being built, a worker reported hearing footsteps on the top floor, but nobody was there. Others also heard footsteps, as well as voices and felt cold breezes on the backs of their necks.

Then one night in 2004, David awoke to see the apparition of a man at the foot of his bed. The man pointed towards the driveway , which leads to the place where the murders happened.

But what was even freakier was David went to the LAPD to see if he could find out more about the murders. Might they have some sort of connection to his property to explain for the weird phenomenon? That’s when he saw a photo of one of the victims, Jay Sebring. That’s who  he had seen at the foot of his bed.

I think it’s safe to say this is when David’s interest in his haunted house really grabbed hold.

HAUNTED TESTIMONIALS

As David told the reporter in the LA Weekly article about Taff’s assessment of his property:

“The very first person to document the paranormal activities was world-renowned parapsychologist Barry Taff, who said in over 4,000 cases he investigated, this house had the highest consistent EMF readings he’d seen. He called it ‘the Mount Everest of haunted houses’ and ‘the Disneyland for the dead.’”

Wow.

There are other testimonials on The Oman House site under the Ticket & Schedule page. David is quite impressive to welcome people into his house to experience the phenomenon. There are so many complimentary reviews of his hospitality…and of the things that happened during people’s visits.

The thing that caught my attention most was how many people said nothing bad or evil ever happened to them, like it had to Zak during his Ghost Adventures episode investigating there. People wanted to be clear that they had experienced things moving, EVPs, and such but none felt threatened.

But all felt very welcomed by David and had a great time. Some even seemed to be regulars, having visited the property and taken David’s paranormal tour more than once.

LIMITED AVAILABILITY

David doesn’t offer tours every weekend or anything like that. It’s more like a special occasion.

If you’re interested in attending when tours are announced, book early. Space is limited to 20 people at a time and they do sell out.

He offers different packages, ranging in price from $99 for the Silver Package (ticket only),  $115 for the Gold Package (ticket and a T-shirt), to $125 for the Platinum Package (ticket, T, and a ball cap).

WHAT HAPPENED TO 10050 CIELO DRIVE?

As promised above, here’s what happened to the house where the murders actually took place.

The last owner of the property was Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. He moved out in 1993.

The new owner demolished the home in 1994, and built a new mansion called Villa Bella. It also got a new street address: 10066 Cielo Dr.
