Did you know that August 30 is Frankenstein Day?

Neither did we, until we stumbled across it on Holiday Insights, one of the Sources we used to create a brand new section here on Haunt Jaunts: Weird Holidays and Observances.

It’s a calendar of the strange that’s geared towards anything travel, pop culture, horror, creepy crawly, and in general odd and out of the ordinary that appealed to our curious and unusual sensibilities.

It all started back during Paranormal Day. It was a day we happened to stumble across.

Then we started noticing other days, such as:

  • World Goth Day on May 22
  • Jason Voorhees Birthday on June 13
  • Roswell UFO Days, July 1-4
  • World UFO Day on July 2

We thought about and said, “You know, it’d be fun to have a calendar specifically noting bizarre days like these.”

So we  scoured the following calendar sites:

And before we knew it, we’d come up with a little Calendar of Curious Dates.

Some we already knew about, but many we had no idea even existed, such as:

  • January 3 Memento Mori “Remember You Die” Day
  • January 13  International Skeptics Day
  • January 16 Appreciate a Dragon Day
  • February 9 (or the 2nd Tuesday in February) Extraterrestrial Culture Day
  • March 12 Alfred Hitchcock Day
  • March 20 Snowman Burning Day (and this one is even better because it was started by the Unicorn Hunters. We’ll be writing a post with more details about that for sure!)
  • May 11 Twilight Zone Day
  • May 26 World Dracula Day
  • September 13 Scooby-Doo Day
  • All the other celebrations besides Halloween that fall on October 31

We also threw in some that just tickled our funny bones, such as:

  • January 27 Thomas Crapper Day (Yep, as in the toilet’s creator.)
  • November 24 All Our Uncles Are Monkeys Day (aka Evolution Day, celebrates when Darwin’s On the Origins of Species first published.)
  • December 16 National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day
  • December 18 Answer The Telephone Like Buddy The Elf Day

But it’s not just limited to days. We noted any weekly or monthly celebrations that fit our weird requirements too, where applicable.

So go ahead. Give it a gander. Let us know what you think. And have fun celebrating the weird, fantastic, unusual, and bizarre!
