Happy first day of September! Time for a new Caption This contest!
But first…
Have you seen our newest section? It’s our Weird Holidays and Observances calendar.
You might’ve seen similar calendars listing a whole bunch of bizarre, unusual, fun, wacky and strange dates. (Just about every day of the year seems to have one now.)
Well, we went through several of those calendars to find dates that would appeal to our peculiar sensibilities –and maybe yours as well?
If you get a chance, check it out.
Last month’s Caption This photo was inspired by some weird August observances.
This month’s photo? Not so much. It was just weird in general and made us chuckle so we’re hoping it’ll inspire some fun captions.
How to Play

Rules
- Open to U.S. residents only. (Sorry out-of-country readers!)
- If two or more caption submissions are very similar, we’ll draw names from the Boo Bucket to determine a winner.
- Multiple entries accepted. (If you’re gifted enough to come up with more than one caption, feel free to submit them. Just be sure we know they’re distinct entries and not a giant run-on one.)
- Newsletter Subscribers: You can pick two of the same card, or two different ones. Entirely up to you.
FAQs
Are multiple submissions accepted?
Yes. See #3 above under Rules.
Does my caption have to be a quote?
Nope. You can give the photo a title, write a poem, make it a quote as if someone’s saying something, write a flash story…anything goes. Whatever the photo inspires from you, we’ll take!
Ready?
Go!
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
As I looked back though my rear view mirror, it was at that point I came to the realization that it’s not a good idea to cut off a T Rex in traffic!
Entering on behalf of Bridgette Elgen from a Facebook comment she left when we shared this post: “Floor It”
Rexxie to driver ****** ******* that was my parking spot!
“Of course you can see my licence Offisaur”.
Gee Dinah, what a B-I-G mouth you have~!
Gee Dinah, what big teeth you have!
Objects in mirror really are that big and closer than it appears!
Gee whiz! I am so beautiful! I shall enter the next Miss Universe contest. If they don’t choose me as the winner, I can use these teeth on them. Hmm!
, Honey, I thought you said we were we were coming to Yosemite Park, not Jurassic Park!
They must be feeding the lizards here pretty good. Because there is a big one approaching our car.
Entering on Behalf of William Uchtman:
“Aw, I think it’s hungry…Honey, get out and give it part of your sandwich…”
Entering for Tara Lisa from a Facebook comment:
Objects appear closer in rear mirror.
I think we need a bigger car!!!
Dinah ate whatever Dinah saw, then angrily roared “I want some more.” Mamma roared ” go to the store.” Dinah cried. “I can’t, my foot is sore.” Mamma Said” Poor Dinah, sore foot.
Tailgating Food?? Where? Where? Follow me to the Dome! Geaux Saints!!
Okay, I would’ve given first place to Glen D.. The “Offisaur” was very clever and very much tickled my funny bone. BUT…Glen lives out of country. Sorry about that Glen. This is like the second or third time I would’ve chosen your caption. Feel bad that you’re missing out on prizes. Will have to see what I can come up with to remedy that…
But the next one that tickled me a great deal was Pamela K. Kinney’s “Jurassic Park” one. So…CONGRATS Pamela on winning this month’s contest! I’ll be in touch re your prize.
Honorable mentions go to Jim Tackitt, Bridgette Elgen, and Donna Hebert.
I wish I was made of money so I could actually give everyone a HM prize this month but…I’m not. However, we’re going to be having a lot of giveaways this month, no captions needed, so please check them out and see if you’d like to win any of those prizes!
