Fright Nights Campouts 2017: Will There Be a Horror Camp Near You?

According to our Weird Holidays & Observances calendar, June is National Camping Month. What better way to celebrate than with a post about a horror summer camp?

We actually wrote about this company last year too. Fright Nights Campout specializes in adult horror summer camp experiences.

They’re back again this year and they recently opened registration for their 2017 tour, which includes campouts in the following cities:

  • Huntsville, AL – August 25 & 26
  • Austin, TX – September 8 & 9
  • Cincinnati, OH – September 15 & 16
  • Jacksonville, FL – September 22 & 23

Summer 2017’s Big Campout Changes

We noticed several things right off that were different for 2017s Fright Nights Campouts.

First, there aren’t as many being offered. Last year they camped in 14 cities. This year they’ve only got four.

Or is it more of a “four so far…” thing? Not sure. (Maybe we should’ve tried to get in touch first and find this out. We’ll update with any info we uncover.)

The second change has to do with accommodation and prices. Last year’s tents ranged from $65 for the Chicken Tent to $85 for the Guts Tent.

This year they’ve added something called Bunkhouses, have kept the Guts tent, but have raised prices, which are as follows:

  • Fright Night Bunkhouse: $99
  • Saturday Night Bunkhouse: $99
  • Fright Night Guts Tent: $109
  • Saturday Night Guts Tent: $109
  • Weekend Package Bunkhouse: $179

Bunkhouse vs. Tent?

Here’s what FNC says about its different accommodations:

Choose between Bunkhouses and Tents. Bunkhouses are for Campers that want to catch some zzz’s, the Guts Tents are for the extreme minded horror lovers.

Which one would you opt for?

Activities

The neat thing about the Fright Nights Campout is that it’s not just show up, find your tent or bunkhouse, hang out until bedtime only to be woken up, terrorized by monsters and chased all over camp until dawn.

They follow an itinerary of activities, which includes:

  • Black Light Monster Dance Party
  • Something they call “Ultimate Campout Games”
  • There’s a Skull Hunt
  • And then in the depths of night is when you play Extreme Hide N Seek

“Will They Eat Feed Me?”

Meals are included with your registration. You can expect typical camp fare:

We’ve got your food covered with good old fashioned camp food! Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Fried Chicken for dinner, sandwiches with sides for lunch and muffins, doughnuts and fruit for breakfast.

If you’re concerned with your diet, however, you may want to pack your cooler appropriately.

“Coolers are allowed? What else can we bring?”

Yes! Coolers are allowed!

Fright Nights Campout actually has a list of required items to bring, as well as suggested items, in their Survival Guide section.

Required items include:

  • Flashlight

  • Old clothes (they may get ruined)

  • Old Shoes (ladies this does not mean old high heels)

  • Bedding for bunks

  • Toiletries

  • Flip Flops for Showers

Recommended items include:

  • Cooler (no liquor, we will search all coolers)

  • Change of clothes

  • Sleeping bag & pillow (if you actually plan on sleeping)

  • Water and snacks

  • Diapers

  • Extra Socks

  • Your Onesie and Sippy Cup

“Is there anything we can’t bring?”

Basically what you can’t bring is:

  • Alcohol
  • Drugs
  • Weapons

So leave your machetes at home. Besides, they make dangerous bedfellows.

Reviews

Now in all honesty, last year we had several people stop by the blog and take time to share that they were not satisfied with their Fright Nights Campout experience.

But we also had a representative from the company respond to the criticisms and offer an explanation and apologize to those who didn’t have such a great experience.

Hiccups happen. (Boy do we know all about that!)

But it does seem Fright Nights Campout is trying to provide a quality experience.

Maybe that’s why there are fewer campouts this year? Maybe they’re focused on crafting a more intimate, unique and thorough horror experience for campers?

We’re not sure. We’re very intrigued by this event, but it’d be too terrifying for our blood.

However, if you go? Let us know how it went, would you?

If you live to tell the tale, that is…

Happy camping!

Hi Maria! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! YES! This sounds crazy fun right?

  3. Oh how I wish there was one in PA. This sounds like a blast.

  4. Ahh this sounds terrifying! I am a bit of a chicken when it comes to anything horror related though. Probably a good thing they don’t allow alcohol there as I can totally see that making people even more freaked out and do some unsafe things!

Darn! Maybe eventually they will have one there? And PA…SO jealous of you! Even if this isn’t coming to you, you have SO many cool haunted places!

It’s too much for us, too, Diana! I couldn’t imagine doing this sober or otherwise, but you make an excellent point that drinking would not mix well with this event.
