I’m very excited about two new Netflix offerings we’ll be able to enjoy in the coming months.
Well, hopefully enjoy. I’m assuming a lot. One, that since you’re reading this, you also like viewing options like the ones below. Two, that Neflix will once again come through with awesome productions.
Anyway, what am I talking about? One is a movie, Bright, which will star Will Smith and Joel Edgerton.
The other is a series, The Haunting of Hill House, based on Shirley Jackson’s book of the same name.
Bright – Coming December 22, 2017 on Netflix
Humans, Orcs, Elves… everybody is just trying to get along. Get ready for the world of Bright, a new Netflix Original Film, starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton.
I’m hoping to fall in love with this one when I see it, but…I’m a little leery.
Apparently there’s a “magic wand” they come across that they need to make sure doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. Might be a little more fantasy than I normally go in for.
And as if our world isn’t complicated enough, the world in this movie has even more “races” trying to get along. The human race can barely get along with itself, so…that might set up some interesting conflict.
But there is a lot of levity in the trailer, and a few chuckle-inducing scenes, coupled with good acting. I’ll give it a chance.
Mostly I’m interested that a bigger budget-looking movie is being release straight to Netflix. Is this the start of a new trend, and the beginning of the end for movie theaters?
The Haunting of Hill House – coming to Netlflix ???
This one came to my attention when a fellow member in the HorrorAddicts.com Facebook group posted a TVLine.com article about Carla Gugino joining the Netflix horror drama The Haunting of Hill House.
Here’s what I found from Screenrant.com about the series:
According to Variety, The Haunting of Hill House is being adapted to a series for Netflix, with a ten episode order. It’s the story of four people spending the summer is a supposedly haunted house, in order to prove that the supernatural is real. The series is being lead by Mike Flanagan, quite the name in horror himself after having written and directed Oculus and Ouija: Origin of Evil, among other titles….
As the series is still in the early planning stages, there is not much known at this time. Keep checking in with Screen Rant for further information about the upcoming Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House.
Oh, I’ll keeping checking back, Screenrant.com. You better believe it.
A Bonus Discovery – Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game Also Coming to Netlfix
In the same Screenrant.com article mentioned above, I was also excited to read this:
A full Haunting of Hill House series will allow for that concept to be examined in more depth, over the course of time. Producing the series along with Flanagan are Trevor Macy, Justin Falvey, and Darryl Frank. Flanagan and Macy have worked together before on several projects, including another adaption of a horror novel for Netflix – the upcoming movie Gerald’s Game, based on the book by Stephen King.
I added the bold to emphasize something else we can expect from Netflix. Have to do more research and see what I can learn about this!
Do you watch Netflix? What are some of your favorite shows?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
