If you’re a fan of Destination America’s Ghost Asylum, then you probably already know the Tennessee Wraith Chasers will have a new show on the channel: Haunted Towns.
The eight episode series will premier on Destination America Tuesday August 15, 2017 at 10 pm Eastern.
However, starting today, August 7, 2017, you can watch the premier on Destination America’s TV Everywhere app.
The Premise of “Haunted Towns”
The Hollywood Reporter had an excellent write up detailing what Haunted Towns aims to bring to paranormal reality TV:
They will explore “places that played key roles in the darker chapters of American history, where battle, disaster and injustice have condemned unsettled spirits to every street corner.” That includes places like infamous hotspots Gettysburg and Salem as well as small towns at the center of legendary ghost stories.
The Tennessee Wraith Chasers consist of Chris, Doogie, Porter and Brannon, who interview witnesses, investigate hotspots using the latest ghost-hunting technology and follow new leads until they can pinpoint who is haunting the town and why. Their goal is to find out if there is any truth to the stories about each town’s paranormal activity….
“Haunted Towns is about so much more than ghost stories. It’s about places of deep historical significance, where stories of hauntings are passed down over generations. Is it simply folklore, or is it true? We want to find out what is really going on in these towns,” said Jane Latman, general manager of Destination America.
Even though this is just another ghost hunting show following in the footsteps of the many that have come before it, I have to give kudos to the producers. At least they’re trying to put a fresh spin on a saturated niche. It’s nice to see more of a spotlight being shined on the history of the haunted places, rather than just the thrill of the hunt.
Speaking of the haunted places, which ones will they be investigating? Pretty much all the most popular biggies.
The “Haunted Towns”
The season premiere journeys to one of the most beloved haunted towns there is: Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The battlefield itself draws paranormal enthusiasts and investigators alike because of its active reputation, but the town in general boasts a lot of haunts too, such as the Jennie Wade House, the Gettysburg Hotel, the Tillie Pierce House Inn, and the Farnsworth House.
The other seven destinations the Tennessee Wraith Chasers will explore are:
- Salem, Massachusetts – What myth vs. fact will they uncover about this infamous American town steeped in witch lore?
- Savannah, Georgia – A popular southern city with a strong history of Civil War ghost stories. From stately homes to hopping pubs, there’s no telling which places they’ll chose to focus their investigation on.
- Vicksburg, Mississippi – Another southern city with strong Civil War ties. Will they be investigating the ghosts of possible fallen soldiers, or those who died during the tumultuous Reconstruction era?
- Bisbee, Arizona – A former mining town with a colorful Wild West past. Will part of the investigation include the Copper Queen Hotel?
- Fall River, Massachusetts – “Lizzie Borden took an axe…” ‘Nuff said. One of America’s most infamous crimes was committed here, and it’s believed the ghosts of the victims have never found peace or rest.
- McDonough, Georgia – In 1900, a train crashed in this town just outside of Atlanta. Dozen of passengers were killed. The tragedy has long been thought to be the cause of hauntings in McDonough Square. Will the TWC boys prove the rumor true or false?
- Cape May, New Jersey – I can see why Cape May is haunted. Most living people don’t want to leave this charming seaside Victorian town when their vacations are up, so why would the spirits?
Do you have a favorite haunted town? Is there a hunted town you haven’t been able to visit yet that you’d really like to? Speak up! That’s what the comment section is for!
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
TWC a band of brothers is broken without Casey. He was the one I liked get rid of the tall ball headed guy. I hate him. I saw what he was doing and the mop top kid is worthless. Haunted town suck. They are missing the member of the team who matters more than the rest. Don’t watch the show its a fake. The band of brother is broken.
Yes Virginia, Chasey, not Casey, chose family over the show. Kudo’s to him. You seem awfully hateful towards people you don’t even know. I hope your real life isn’t as miserable as this current post. All paranormal shows have an element of entertainment to them, take it for what they are or don’t watch at all. The “band of brothers” is not broken, just reinvented.
I wondered what happened to Chasey as well, thanks for filling that in.I like these guys and looking forward to the new show.
