The premiere of Rob Lowe’s new mystery reality TV show, The Lowe Files, aired this past Wednesday, August 2, 2017, on A&E. Lowe described the new series as “…a mix of Scooby Doo and Anthony Bourdain” to Entertainment Weekly. (What a combo!)

What “Lowe-cations” will Rob and his sons, Matthew and John Owen, explore? (I wish I could take credit for the clever “Lowe-cations” play on words, but that’s all A&E. It’s a section on their site under The Lowe Files show page.)

Well, that’s not entirely clear.

But before we look where they’ll be jaunting, let’s examine why Lowe is revealing his paranormal side.

Why the Lowe Files?

The trailer for The Lowe Files answers the question (most of which is also the series intro).

Rob explains when his boys were young, they were curious about topics like ghosts, Bigfoot, and aliens. They even showed fun family footage of a “haunt jaunt” in search of Sasquatch.

There was a whole, “One day we’ll investigate all that more. Try and find the answers for ourselves.”

Well, you know how Life goes. It gets busy. Rob had his career. The boys had the job of growing up.

But now it appears the time has come. (Because they’ve made time for it, unlike so many of us, myself included, who do the whole, “One day I’ll get around to that…,” but never do.)

He’s also aware if they don’t set aside this time, his boys will get busy with lives of their own. They might never get the chance then. (Cue Harry Chapin’s, “Cat in the Craddle” music.)

B.S or Not?

I love this exchange at the start of Episode 1:

John Owen asks as they’re driving to Preston Castle, “So what makes us different from any other idiot who’s taken cameras into haunted mansions and castles and whatever?”

Daddy Lowe’s response:

“Well you know Shaman John’s coming with us and we’ll bring him to help us manifest any energy that may or may not be. Nobody has brought a shaman to try to reach across the void to bring out these spirits.”

John Owen: “So when I go back to school, I’ll just tell people I was with a shaman in a haunted basement?”

Daddy Lowe: “Pretty much.”

John Owen: “There’s plenty of people that have tried to find ghosts and carried cameras around. Why do you think there’s no definitive footage of a ghost?”

Daddy Lowe: “Television is filled with shows about ghosts and ghost hunting with apparitions and things. You know, maybe they’re faked, maybe they aren’t faked, but that’s one of the reasons I wanted to do this show. Because I love those shows. And we’ve always loved them. And to have a chance to see whether it’s B.S. or not? Is great!”

Matthew then weighs in that just because there hasn’t been smoking gun evidence yet, why can’t it be them who finds it?

Well, if it’s not all B.S., maybe they will…

The Lowe-cations

Okay, so now that we’ve established why the Lowe Files, the next question is: where will they investigate?

Since the first episode has aired, we know that Preston Castle was one of locations. But where else will they go?

About as much as they’ll reveal beforehand is what’s on the show’s About page, which is:

Their many missions, which will take them across the county, include: exploring an alien base located 2,000 feet underwater off the coast of Malibu, CA; working with a renowned shaman at Preston Castle, an abandoned boys’ reformatory; and training with a top-secret government operative in methods of Remote Viewing, a challenge to identify images from great distances.

There’s also a strong chance they’ll head somewhere to investigate Bigfoot. What’s less clear is if they’ll head to Humboldt County, California, where the famous 1967 Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot footage was shot, or to any of the other many sites where the big-footed hairy creature has been reported.

It looks like we’ll have to keep watching if we want answers.

Hey D! This is so cool to hear! THX for stopping by to leave your thoughts. I didn’t get to watch it all yet. I made it halfway through so far. (Only stopped because I was watching during lunch and had to get back to work. Haven’t had a chance to pick back up yet.) However, what I saw? LOVED! (Plus, doesn’t hurt Rob Lowe’s always been easy on the eyes. lol)

  3. I watched this show and wasn’t a fan. The thing that I didn’t like was the fact they spent more time talking about there life and celebrity than anything else. I think Papa Lowe would do better without having his boys in tow. Also it appears this is a hobby and not taken serious to him/them. Not that they were disrespectful, but not real professional IMO. I can see this show not being renewed. IMO, total fail and I’m a huge fan to these types of shows.

Hey Deborah! I still have not watched the whole first episode. And now I’m probably at least one or two more behind. Sigh. Very much enjoyed reading thoughts from someone who wasn’t too keen on what they saw though. Makes me want to hurry up and finish it! Gotta get on that! lol
