This week’s Movie Monday trailer clip, Underground, came to my attention thanks to @NewHorrorFilm following me on Twitter.
It reminds me of a cross between C.H.U.D. and the Descent…except these underground beasties live in an underground military bunker. I can’t quite discern from the trailer how the group of friends gets stuck there. Near as I can tell it looks like a bar fight gone awry. I’m not sure I buy that premise, but for the sake of argument (or not arguing as the case may be) I’ll go with it.
It could be a fun movie. “Most anticipated horror film experience of 2010” might be taking it too far, though. (As per it’s YouTube description.)
The movie’s website will launch December 1, 2009. It dares all who visit it now to check back then to see what lurks beneath the ground. (Zombies right? Just kidding!)
One thing I will give it credit for…the trailer has a couple wicked and disturbing images. Helps to counteract the strong “B” feeling vibe it gives off thanks to some of the noticeably apparent bad acting. But that’s also why I decided to feature it –there’s some promise it might be scary. Or scary enough to take you away from your troubles for an hour and twenty minutes. (Or whatever it’s running time may be.)
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
You know, this is really close to another movie that I really liked called “Catacombs” that was about a woman who went to a rave in France in the catacombs and got separated and was tormented and chased. I really liked it, it had that “The Descent” feel with some shocking twists. It wasn’t a cinematic wonder, but I finished it feeling like I had been in there with her.
Thanks for the tip! I just Netflixed Catacombs. I had never heard of it. (And Pink is in it! I love her! Didn’t even know she’d made a movie!) I will check it out. You haven’t lead me wrong yet with your tips. Thanks for giving me something new to check into!
