How well do you know August? How many of the following questions can you answer?

  1. Were you even aware there has already been one Ghostbusters Day so far this year?
  2. Did you know there’s a lot of reason to “clown” around in August?
  3. Do you foresee any crystal balls in the month ahead?
  4. Have you given any thought to getting all “dolled” up this month?
  5. Did you know Wes Craven was both born and died in August?

Now let’s provide some answers to the above questions:

  1. The first Ghostbusters Day of each year happens in June. June 8th to be exact. It commemorates the release of the original Ghostbusters (1984) movie. The second Ghostbusters Day of the year happens a couple months later on August 28th. It commemorates the 30th anniversary re-release of the movie.
  2. International Clown Week happens the first week of every August.
  3. The first Monday through Sunday of the month is National Psychic week. But August 7 is National Psychic Day.
  4. August 7 is also National Doll Day.
  5. Wes Craven was born August 2, 1939 and died August 30, 2015.

Here’s some other famous August birthdays:

  • August 6 – M. Night Shyamalan
  • August 10 – Josh Gates
  • August 13 – Alfred Hitchcock
  • August 30 – Mary Shelley

Another fun August 30 Fact: It’s also Frankenstein Day (in honor of Frankenstein “creator” Mary Shelley’s birthday).

Oh, and Skellie wants me to add this tidbit, him being a skeleton and all: August 22, 1929 was when Walt Disney released “The Skeleton Dance.”

I had a chance to tour the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco earlier this year. “The Skeleton Dance” was one of the exhibits.

I thought it was interesting the movie faced some adversity. Some thought Walt was nuts for messing around with skeletons. “Give us more mice!” they said.

Thankfully he didn’t listen.
