Some might think ghosts and sex are a perfectly odd match, not a perfect one, but I find more and more they go together.
GHOSTS & GOOD TIME GIRLS
I first noticed it last year when we took a cruise to Alaska. One of the ports was Skagway and one of the excursions was the Ghosts & Good Time Girls Walking Tour.
I wanted to take the tour but we opted for the train instead. (My dear husband Wayne mostly tolerates my Haunt Jaunting ways, but once in a while not even stories of good time girls can entice him to take tours with me!)
But it looked like fun. I saw the tour guides all dressed up guiding tour-goers around while I did some souvenir shopping before we caught the train.
And supposedly there’s a ghost in the Red Onion Saloon, which was once a brothel but is now a bar and restaurant. (The tour ends up there from what I gather.)
Anyway, I remember thinking it was a catchy tour title. If we ever happen to go back to Alaska I’ll make a point of taking it!
FUN WITH DONNA
But what really sparked this post was a previous article I wrote about a paranormal pal of mine, Donna Marsh. She’s venturing into the home party realm with paranormal parties as well as adult toy sales.
When I mentioned it to another friend of mine she commented, “Talk about a weird combo.”
But I don’t think it’s as weird as I first might have. Sex is all about heightened emotions. Same with ghosts. (Both from the standpoint of using our senses to detect them, as well as why ghosts might exist. Meaning, some theories speculate ghosts are born out of heightened emotional incidents –like a lover’s spat gone awry.)
Also, while other tours may not specifically focus on murdered prostitutes and good time girls, it’s not uncommon to hear tales of such women now turning tricks as ghosts at some point during a tour. Especially in places like Charleston, New Orleans, St. Augustine or anywhere else with with a historic downtown that housed all manner of inhabitants.
Plus, ghosts are kind of naughty aren’t they? Not naughty in the same way sex is, but still a bit taboo. We’re starting to talk about them more openly, but there’s still that hint of the forbidden lingering about them, isn’t there? (For both sex and ghosts really.)
So I say ghosts and sex make a perfect match. What are your thoughts?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
That’s why I write erotic horror 🙂
Ah ha! I feel like I’m on to something…or, rather, just catching on. Once again you’re already in the know, Autumnforest. That’s why you write what you do! And judging from the blogs of yours I’ve written, I bet that is some very good erotic horror!!!!!! Thanks for the comment.
