If you’re a Disney fan, you likely do. If not, maybe you’re even wondering, “Mouse ears? What in the heck does that mean?”
You know. As in Mickey Mouse ears?
The above is an example of the classic Mickey Mouse hat I grew up with. These days headbands seem to be all the rage. They have all kinds. Here’s a teeny tiny sampling of some Mickey and Minnie ones:
But there are more. Whatever your favorite Disney movie is, there’s mouse ears to celebrate them. (Including A Nightmare Before Christmas. Disney and the movie’s fans likely know there are Jack Skellington and Sally ears. I didn’t. That was another discovery I made while researching types of mouse ears for this post.)
Since I don’t make it to Disneyland or the Magic Kingdom enough to know these sorts of things existed, discovering the Haunted Mansion mouse ears was so fun. I stumbled across them when I added a new list to the Skareporium: Haunted Mansion.
Maybe Disneyland or the Magic Kingdom stores sell other varieties, but here are the two I found on Amazon:
Haunted Mansion Hatbox Ghost Mickey Ear Hat Halloween Headband
Haunted Mansion Bat Minnie Ears Headband
The Big 5-0
Why on earth did I add the ears –or even the Haunted Mansion list– at all?
Well, I recently came across a “It Happened This Week” snippet I’d cut out from the August 20, 2018 Woman’s World magazine. I’d circled that in 1969 the Haunted Mansion ride had opened at Disneyland in Anaheim. I made a note that that meant it would be celebrating 50 years in 2019.
Well, 2019 is here, and I don’t know about you, but 50 is a pretty big milestone for anyone or anything. There’s usually a lot of hoopla. Surely Disney will be doing something fun to celebrate the occasion. I want to be ready.
The party prep started last year when I bought a couple of Haunted Mansion things from the Shop Disney store.
I have a big anniversary myself coming up this year.
Hopefully. If I can make it to June healthy with no cancer recurrence. If so, I’ll celebrate 10 Years in the Clear.
Disney World is actually one of the places I’d like to go to celebrate if I do. I’ll be sure to sport my Haunted Mansion goods. And perhaps a pair of mouse ears? If I can figure out which would go best. Obviously the Bat Minnie Ears seem the natural choice. But I dig that creepy ghost face! Might have to splurge and get both…
What about you? Which mouse ears appeal most to you?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
