Yesterday my husband sent me an email with a link to our April 2010 monthly horoscope. I interpreted it as our HORRORscope, because I didn’t much care for what it had to say. Which was basically that Saturn’s reentering Virgo for 14 weeks. (I’ve got a history with that planet so I’m not very fond of it.)
If you’re not a Virgo, I think you’re okay as far as Saturn goes. But none of us are safe from either April in general or Mercury Retrograde at all.
I’ll start with the first two to hurry you non-Virgos on your way. Virgos, you may want to stick out the entire post and read about Saturn’s influence on us.
APRIL
I don’t trust April. Really bad things happen in April. Here’s a few examples of what I mean:
- The Great San Francisco Earthquake – April 18, 1906
- Titanic – April 14, 1912
- Chernobyl – April 26, 1986
- Columbine Massacre – April 20, 1999
- Waco April 19, 1993 – (started in February though)
- Oklahoma City Bombing – April 19, 1995
- Virginia Tech shootings – April 16, 2007
And I’m not the only one who’s noticed. Here’s a few links to others questioning the same thing (and some even point out more examples of disastrous events):
- What is it about April?
- A lot of bad things happen in April. Coincidence??
- Is April a Cursed Month?
Now it seems there’ll be another one to add to the list: the coal mine explosion in West Virginia. I actually composed this post yesterday afternoon to post later today. I about flipped out when I saw the news last night. April strikes again. Unfortunately.
MERCURY RETROGRADE
I’ve written about Mercury Retrograde before. For a refresher on what it is and what it does, basically Mercury Retrograde cycles are riddled with headaches. Nothing quite goes as planned. Computers don’t work right. Communications get misunderstood or lost in transition. Things break down.
It’s not a total loss though. I’ve always been taught it’s a great time for “re” things. Like REpairs, REwrites, REnovations, RElaxation, etc.
Mercury goes retrograde April 18 and lasts until May 11. Given April’s penchant for mishaps, you might understand why I’m none too thrilled to learn a Mercury Retrograde cycle is upon us.
SATURN
Saturn just spent its stint in Virgo from 2007-2009, but apparently it didn’t quite satisfy it’s full Tour of Duty and now has to come back for 14 weeks.
As Susan Miller explained it on Astrology Zone:
Saturn was in Virgo from September 2007 to October 2009 but had not finished all of its tutoring of those Virgos born at the very end of the sign, with birthdays that fall from September 17-23….
Everyone gets a direct nine months’ attention of Saturn within his visit, and during the time Saturn moved through all the degrees of Virgo, he didn’t really get to spend a full nine months with you if your birthday falls at the end of the sign.
If, like me, you had trial after trial from 2007-2009, it was all due to Saturn, what Susan Miller calls the “teacher-taskmaster planet” who puts us through “cosmic bootcamp.” (On my other blog I called it the big, bad, black cloud planet, because that’s what it was like. I felt like I was under a black cloud that just would not stop raining on me and I had a leaky umbrella to boot!)
This is what she says Saturn’s supposed to do: “Saturn will push you, prod you, and toughen you up, but in the end he will leave you stronger, wiser, and more mature.”
Saturn tried to kill me but didn’t succeed. I can now honestly attest that yes, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I am one tough cookie now!
But I can still crumble. That’s why I’m cringing to know Saturn’s coming back.
Yet, it’s only for 14 weeks. Also, supposedly from April 1-24 is supposed to be an excellent time for travel, sports, and friends. Especially the weelend of April 24-25.
Fantastic! It just so happens we’ll be down in Destin with a huge group of people from Nashville for a volleyball tournament. (And we’re leaving out a little early to hopefully sneak in some Haunt Jaunting if we can find any.)
Hope this information proves useful and insightful to you in planning your April. (Or all the way until July if you’re a Virgo. Saturn hits the road July 21 and won’t be back until 2036 or something.)
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I can think of one good thing that happened in April, Gary and I were married on the 25th. This month we will celebrate 29 years of marriage. Next year on our 30th, I want to go on an Alaskian cruise.
Jeeze, that’s weird. Is there any way to skip OVER April? May is always nice. 😉
I always love April. It is the end of winter and here in the South, it is the beginning of pool season. I can plant. It’s sunny. I guess one man’s trash is another’s treasure.
Oh c’mon, April is a month like any other, there is no coincidence, bad things are happening all over the yar for few thousand years. There’s nothing supernatural nor dangerous in April, trust the Psychic on this one, Courtney 🙂
YAY Julie on 29 years! Very impressive. It’s a feat not a lot (heck most) married couples don’t accomplish these days.
Nate: LOL! I think some would like to skip it!
Jessica: True, true, and true! It’s a smidge too cold for pool season for those of us still in the South but a smidge north of you, BUT…flowers are blooming, trees are blossoming, and there’s no better place to be than the garden. April is a wonderful month.
Nathan: April is like any other month, but I have to disagree with you: it does seem to see more than it’s fair share of tragedies. Hmmm…I just may do a comparison to see which month has seen the most. If it turns out I find April’s got no more than any other month, I’ll rescind my position, Nathan.
Oh, and just to clarify: I have nothing against April. I just happened to notice a few years back that bad things seem to happen during the month. And when I say “bad things” I mean spectacularly bad. Mass deaths, big tragedies. But as far as the month goes? Jessica’s comment probably sums my feelings up best. I love that warmer weather lets us get out again and gardening season has begun. (That and volleyball and tennis!)
Hey, April isn’t all bad… of course it’s the last day of the month, but I was born 🙂 Of course, that could be Tracie disease, maybe I should have been born May 1st, which would really conclude your theory!!!
HA! It’s true. April’s not all bad. I’m truly not saying that. It’s just bad things seem to happen in April…But you being born during April was NOT one of the bad things. That was a GREAT thing!
