Andrea from Ghost Stories always does a Question of the Week. This week’s question was “What do you think the lights over Phoenix are?”

She asked it because it got a lot of comments in her review of the first “Fact or Faked” episode. (Apparently the Phoenix Lights was something the Fact or Faked team looked into. Neat! Haven’t had a chance to watch it yet because our TV’s been out of commission the last few days.)

MEMORIES

Anyway, her question got me to reminiscing back to that event. We were living in Phoenix at the time. From our home we would’ve been able to see the lights if I’d gone outside.

But I didn’t. I never saw them. (I might’ve if I ever watched the news back then. But that was during the days when I was content to read, read, read with no TV on at all. I had no idea what so many others in the city were witnessing.)

And I was absolutely devastated I had missed out when the office where I worked suddenly was all abuzz about the UFOs over Phoenix.

UFOs? What? When? Were we being invaded? Was it finally happening? Was “contact” being made? If so, wow! How exciting! I was living through history!

Oh, I lived through history all right. The history of watching a certain governor make an ass of himself.

SYMINGTON’S SHAM

The governor I’m referring to is Fife Symington. The office where I worked happened to be a law firm that represented Symington on various issues.

That’s part of why the place was abuzz. Word spread fast about his upcoming press conference and how he was going to reveal the mystery of the Phoenix lights. Word had it there was an alien and everything.

I was glued to the TV for that press conference. I don’t remember ever being so excited about something in all my life. I truly believed aliens had landed, had made contact, and Fife Symington (who I actually had respect for up until that moment) was going to do what no other government official before him had ever done: fess up to alien lifeforms amongst us.

Oh, he did something no other government official has ever done before all right: he made a total mockery out of those who believed in aliens and UFOs.

I will never forget my fury when they paraded in the man dressed in the alien suit (his Chief of Staff I believe). What the heck?

It’s one thing for a government to cover up something like Roswell, but to have a live press conference and turn it into the mockery he did? I’m not a violent person, but I know I would’ve felt a lot better in that moment if I could’ve given Symington’s smug face a nice, solid slap! A-hole!

SYMINGTON’S NEW STORY ABOUT THE PHOENIX LIGHTS

After reading Andrea’s question I Googled “Phoenix Lights” and was stunned to find the clip I posted below. Symington, who had sworn up and down there was no aliens, no UFOs, it was likely something military causing the lights, now says he saw them.

Not only that, he believes it was evidence of UFOs!

But he couldn’t say anything at the time. As a public official it was his duty to keep the peace. He knew there’d be mass chaos if he came forward and said, “Yep, Arizona’s a haven for all kinds of aliens, and I’m not talking just the south of the border kind.”

But now that he’s not a public official it’s okay to say he believes it was UFOs? Not only that, he’s admitting he saw the lights.

I don’t believe him. I think he’s just a big jerk!

  1. Yeah, we got rid of that loser… I didn’t see them either, I miss out on all the fun. I have talked with some that were outside on that day and they swear that what they saw was UFO’s. They had no doubts.

  2. Yeah that was pretty tasteless. I don’t think that guy had a clue what he was doing. But the Fact or Faked crew’s evaluation of Phoenix Light’s footage seems to be coming in to question as well, mostly because of who filmed it.

  3. Well at least I’m in good company, Julie! Sorry you missed out too. And the couple people I know who did seem them said the same thing as the people you know. Was too weird to be anything but UFOs. Either that or our govt has some new technology they’re not divulging… (Oh, and I should probably be more careful about voicing my politics, but…I couldn’t help myself!)

Andrea, what do you mean it’s coming into question? Intriguing! You are always piquing my interest. What is this latest controversy you speak of? I want to know more?

  4. Okay, I think I may have worded it wrong. Most of what I’ve read, the guy who filmed the footage used in Fact or Faked, I think his name was Jeff Willes, is supposedly not a reliable source. He’s big in the UFO scene. Some say not in a good way and the crew didn’t really touch base with that or we didn’t see it. Most of what I’ve read in regards to the footage the crew caught has to do with not calling around to airports and/or air force to make sure it wasn’t a plane of some sorts.

  5. OH! Okay, this makes more sense. I was like, “WOW! The show just started and already there’s controversy about it? What does that say for Syfy?” PHEW! Now I get it. Very interesting indeed. THANKS so much for stopping by to shed light on your comment! =)
