Mystic Miscellany: The Largest Paranormal Glossary Online

Abstract of writing and books

Last year Amy Michelle Mosier used the Contact Us page to tell me about her site, Mystic Miscellany.

Now this sounds worse than it is. It was the beginning of October, so it’s not like it’s been a whole year. Just a half of one.

October is always a busy time of year. But last year I ended up being AWOL for most of it, because my husband switched jobs and took time off in between starting the new one. Before I knew it, we were jaunting all over the place.

Which was wonderful in one respect. It was the first time in almost 14 years we had a true vacation together without any work interruptions. But it all happened fast and I didn’t have a lot of time to properly plan for being away.

Needless to say, lots fell through the cracks. Emails got buried in my inbox. Ones I’m still trying to dig through. I’m trying to clean up so that’s how I find myself finally writing about Michelle’s cool site.

Paranormal A to Z

The glossary includes over 500 terms of the paranormal.

It starts with Abba – one of the many epithets of God [Hebrew abba “father”] and ends with Zozo alt. Zuzu – a Ouija board demon, possibly the equivalent of the Assyrian demon king named Pazuzu or the Hebrew demon named Azazel.

To find words, you just click on a letter. That’ll bring up all the paranormal words starting with that letter.

But it’s not just words. It’s people, paranormal television shows, folklore and mythology, para celebs and pioneers. It’s really impressive, ambitious and thorough.

Stats and Resources

In addition to the glossary, there’s two buttons under the site’s title. One is a graph icon and the other is a plus sign. Both take you to even more paranormal info.

The graph icon takes you to stats, including things like percent of Americans who believe in certain types of phenomenon like ghosts, Bigfoot, angels, etc.

Here’s all the info you’ll find there:

  • Paranormal Pulse of the Nation
  • Profile of an Experiencer
  • Ghostly Figures
  • Out of This World
  • On the Trail of Bigfoot

Resource links include sites to report UFO sightings, find ghost hunting equipment, join Bigfoot organizations, and even includes a list of legendary creatures.

YouTube

Amy also has a YouTube channel, which includes a trailer for Mystic Miscellany. I posted it below, along with another video about 7 Creepy Stories that she put together.

Check them out, and her site too. But fair warning. It’s easy to spend time on the glossary seeing which words you know and which you didn’t.

Which letter of the glossary would you start with: the letter A, or another letter? If you’d start with another letter, which one?

  1. I’d start with F. (I did start with F!) I just wrote a letter to a gentleman named Floyd, so I guess the letter F was in my head!

  2. Author

Here’s another F word for you…FUN! I love that you went to take a peek AND you shared not only what letter but the why too!
