The UnXplained: William Shatner Hosts New History Channel Show

Anyone with even the slightest interest in the paranormal, supernatural, or unexplained phenomena will most likely cite one television show in particular as their inspiration: In Search Of…, hosted by the imitable Leonard Nimoy of Star Trek fame. From the first moment I heard the uniquely ’70s sci-fi theme and Nimoy’s dulcet tones, I was hooked. The show explored cryptids like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster; weird paranormal phenomena like ghosts, UFOs, and ESP; and even more mundane mysteries like the disappearance of Amelia Earhart. The show was revived twice, once in 2002 with Mitch Pileggi (from The X-Files) as host, and again just last year on the History Channel with the new Mr. Spock, Zachary Quinto, taking over narration and hosting duties.

But now, in 2019, we have a new show joining the rebooted In Search Of… and exploring the unexplained, aptly titled The UnXplained, premiering on the History Channel on Friday, July 19th. And in another neat parallel, it’s hosted by none other than Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner. The show will explore unexplained mysteries, mysterious creatures, and all sorts of paranormal phenomena. The show is also executive produced by Shatner, and will run for 8 episodes in its inaugural season. In related news, In Search Of… has been renewed for a second season with Mr. Quinto.

From the A&E Networks upfronts:

The UnXplained comes from executive producer Kevin Burns, creator and producer of History hits like Ancient Aliens and The Curse of Oak Island. The show will explore the facts behind the world’s most fascinating, strange and inexplicable mysteries.

“Both The UnXplained and In Search Of strive to solve some of the world’s most intriguing mysteries and it’s this truth seeking that resonates most with our viewers,” History programming chief Eli Lehrer said. “These shows will offer credible answers to questions about mysterious phenomena, while others will remain unexplained. Who else better to transport audiences through this journey than William and Zachary, whose passion, curiosity and perseverance to present every side of these enigmas beam on screen.”

As a paranormal investigator and someone who loves all things paranormal in general, this is great news. But I’m also excited for The UnXplained for another reason: I was interviewed for the show, concerning an experience my wife and I had while on a weekend getaway in upstate New York, back in October of 2015. I will be going into more detail on that experience on the show, and I’ll expand upon it even further here on Haunt Jaunts in a future post, after the episode airs. As a hint, f you want to see me, I should be on the episode dealing with strange creatures.

  1. The show sounds awesome, but I don’t get the History Channel.:-) I’ll have to wait until it gets to Netflix or something. That’s so cool that you were interviewed for the show. I hope it didn’t bring up any seriously terrifying memories!
