Full disclosure: The answer to why Mountain Monsters moved to Travel Channel is not as shocking as I made the headline suggest. It was a shameless ploy to practice my interest-piquing skills. (If you’re reading this, #MissionAccomplished!)
Anyway, I figured I better warn you to lower your expectations a bit. I’ll get to the answer, but first…
Confession: I have never watched an episode of Mountain Monsters.
I did see them when I went to The Scarefest in 2017, though. They were right next to my buddy Rick McCallum’s table, the founder of Hollywood Ghost Hunters. (Who was there with his fellow HGH team members, Kane Hodder and R. A. Mihailoff, known for their rolls in the Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchises.)
But I didn’t speak to any of the Mountain Monsters. Rick made friends with them, though. Naturally. I don’t think he knows a stranger. (Which is not a bad thing. No judgment here. If you’ve never met him but have the chance to, do it. Nicest showbiz type I think you can possibly meet.)
Anyway, Travel Channel recently sent out a press release announcing that Mountain Monsters was moving to their channel on August 21st.
The Move
Matthew Butler, general manager of Travel Channel and Destination America, explained:
“After leaving Season Three with such an intense cliffhanger, we knew we had to broadcast this season on a larger platform, bringing this incredibly popular show from Destination America to a new home at Travel Channel for our AIMS-obsessed fans. Viewers are really invested in the AIMS team and its investigations, and we are elated to finally share what truly happened in the Dark Forest, while catapulting the squad into a whole new set of intense hunts, thrilling twists and hillbilly hilarity.”
How Did Season Three End?
Like I said, I’ve never watched the show so I don’t know. But all this has me intrigued enough I’d like to see what happened on Season Three’s finale.
If you’re in that same boat, you can tune in to Travel Channel. They’ll encore the previous Season Three finale as a precursor to the new episodes. (Check TravelChannel.com for info on exactly when.)
The new season will run from August 21 through September 25, and the final four hours will pick back up and premiere beginning on October 30.
Check-In
Are you a Mountain Monsters fan? Have you been eagerly anticipating the show’s return after Season Three’s finale?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I do like Mountain Monsters. Unfortunately, we can’t see it right now because we don’t have cable. Even when the investigation wasn’t going well, the guys had the best interaction, lively and funny and witty people!
