Did you know Austin is a hot spot for witches and vampires and other creatures of the night? I guess it stands to reason since Austin is such a bat friendly city. (What with their famous bat residents who call the Congress Avenue Bridge home during certain parts of the year and all.)

Keep Austin Weird – How could I pass up this display when I spotted it at Austin’s Museum of the Weird? A fine example of their Bat Pride!

I just connected the dots that two festivals celebrating witches and vampires will both converge on Austin the same weekend, though. It happened when a friend sent me a link to a story on StrangeandCreepy.com.

Another story about a vampire festival caught my eye. Had to make sure I had that in the March listings on the Paracons & Horror Fests page. (Which I did. )

But in that vampire festival story I found another link to info about a witch festival. That’s how I learned about Witchfest, which will be taking place during the same weekend as the Nosferatu Festival Vampire Weekend.

The Witchfest is only one day: March 7.

The Nosferatu Festival is March 6-8.

Other than being held in the same city during the same weekend, they’ll happen at different places. Here’s more info about both.

From the “About This Event” description on Eventbrite:

What better way to Keep Austin Weird than to honor one of the greatest works of cinematic horror with its very own festival? We celebrate 98 years since the endearing Count Orlok, also known as Nosferatu, was first released on March 4th, 1922. What better setting to embrace all things Vampire than Austin, fondly nicknamed Bat City? Nosferatu Festival is a gathering of fans for the mutual admiration of this masterpiece by way of artwork, music, food, drink and general revelry. The Fest is our way of bringing together people spanning all age groups, all cultures and subcultures, and even those alive and undead.
