The season finale of True Terror with Robert Englund ends with an episode called “Bad Omens.” (If you were concerned the show was cursed or something, no. Apologies for raising any alarms!)
Hard to believe it’s already time for it to be over, right? That went quick.
I was afraid it would. After all, it was just a six-part series. (That’s why I wrote “only six!” when I first wrote about how “Freddy” would lead viewers through history’s horrors.)
True Terror
Veteran actor and legendary horror movie icon Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger of the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise), did a great job recounting history’s horrors in Travel Channel’s True Terror with Robert Englund.
He scoured news reports of yesteryear to bring viewers twisted tales ripped straight from the headlines of papers past. In each episode, Englund used his ominous tones and creepy charisma to masterfully weave together a trilogy of spine-tingling tales. Punctuating the newspaper accounts was commentary from historians and experts that helped prove that truth is always stranger than fiction.
Season one concludes April 22 at 10/9c on Travel Channel.
Bad Omens
The finale episode explores three stories of “Bad Omens,” otherworldly messages that something terrifying is coming our way and can be downright diabolical.
The first story tells the tale of Taylor Jones who lost his wife and two young daughters to tuberculosis in rural Pennsylvania. Taylor heads to Kansas City, Kansas, to start a new life, but when he takes part in an unholy ritual, dark deeds lead to his demise.
Then, bad dreams are products of stress, what if they’re ominous messages from powers far beyond our understanding? In Philadelphia in 1893, Julia Cook is haunted by a prophetic dream that foretells a gruesome death.
The final story is about John Blymer from York County, Pennsylvania, in the early 1900s. Blymer is convinced that a mysterious witchcraft has cursed him, driving him to insanity.
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I just watched episode 4. It was awesome. The Red Ghost was a new creature for me, and it was disturbing!
HI Love getting your emails, I do have questions, are the Tennessee Wraith Chasers coming back and when? Also sad to hear True Terror was only a mini series ,I would watch it with R.E always
Hi Mary! Thanks for the comment and compliment. I haven’t seen anything about TWC coming back yet. I keep waiting to see something from them soon too. I hope there will be a second season of True Terror though. We’ll see… (Also, apologies for taking a while to reply. I got behind on all sorts of things because the Paranormal Day P aracon consumed me for a while there.)
I’ve GOT to see that episode then somehow. I had a chance to screen them all but never had the time to binge the whole series. Bummer.
Thanks for your reply and for your continuously keeping us abreast of whats going on in the spooky world
