The Daily News wrote about how the “Devil” trailer evoked laughs from the audience at an “Inception” screening, but the article ended with this glimmer of hope: “Its mysterious nature…suggest that Shyamalan is planning a return to form.”
I’m hoping so. The Sixth Sense was so WOW! Unbreakable was okay. Good intent, but my God was it slow! Signs was pretty okay. Again, teetering dangerously close to being too slow, but it compensated with good suspense. The Village is where I think a lot of critics say he started making a noticeable downward turn.
Lady in the Water and Happenings both looked promising in trailers but were basically stinkers. And let’s not even talk about The Last Airbender…
Devil is the first movie of The Night Chronicles, a series of supernatural thrillers Shyamalan’s producing. (But not writing, according to an article on EW.com by Kerrie Mitchell.) Devil certainly looks promising, but will it be? Or will it be another anticipated M.Night Shyamalan film that disappoints?
We’ll find out tomorrow.
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I actually kind of liked this movie. I wasn’t expecting much as M. Night hasn’t made a good movie in a long time, but I really enjoyed it. I hated the voice over, but the rest was good!
Ooooh! You saw it? And you’re even giving it a decent review. Interesting! Thanks so much for sharing your opinion. I might have to bump this up from a Netflix rental to actually daring to see it in theaters now…
