Watermark, based in Maryland, offers a variety of water-based adventures, including private charters, water taxi services and tours. On July 17 and 24 they’re offering a new haunted land and sea special event tour: Spirits & Spirits.
The Voyage
Guest will board Miss Anne, an open-air vessel, to begin their two-hour haunted journey.
The adventure starts with a 40-minute cruise through Spa Creek. Guests will listen to a guide dressed in period costume share nautical myths, pirate tales and ghost stories as the captain navigates through the haunted waterways.
When the boat returns to the dock, their guide will lead them through the Historic District for an 80-minute walking tour that explores tales of unexplained mysteries and occurrences.
At the end of the tour, guests will find themselves near the St. Anne’s Cemetery.
There will be snacks and beverages, including the alcoholic variety, available for purchase for guests who get thirsty or struck by a case of the munchies during the tour.
Times
There are two times to choose from: 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
Tickets
Must be purchased in advance and start at $35 per person.
Land Only Ghost Tours
For those who prefer not to test their sea legs and instead stay on land, Watermark also offers a Historic Ghost Tour, which jaunts through Annapolis’s historic downtown. It includes stories of phantom footsteps, the Gravedigger and how some poor souls were hanged to make more room in jails.
This year the tour will run July 3 through September 26 mostly on Friday and Saturday nights only. The exception is when they include a Sunday in September, over Labor Day Weekend.
Watermark’s COVID-19 Policies
Watermark acknowledges that “an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present.”
Anyone who purchases a ticket for any of their tours, be it on land or sea, assumes all risks associated with catching the disease.
However, of course they’re trying to make sure no one does. After all, no people, no business. So it’s in their vested interest to keep guests healthy.
Here are some of the coronavirus era travel and tourism trends they’re implementing to keep everyone safe:
- Temperature and symptoms screenings for employees
- Limiting the number of passengers to better accomplish social distancing
- Cashless payments
- Hand sanitizer on vessels
- Increased sanitization
- Face masks required for staff and for any guests sitting next to people not from their household.

Check-In
Have you ever taken a ghost tour by boat?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
