If it was near April Fool’s Day I’d think this was a really clever story and be jealous I hadn’t thought of such an outrageous headline myself. But, no joke, Zak Bagans and crew did use cadaver dogs to search an alligator pit at the zoo formerly owned by Tiger King Joe Exotic. (
The zoo is now owned by Jeff Lowe and called the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park. However, that’s about to change since it will once again change hands and soon become the property of Carole Baskins, Joe Exotic’s sworn nemesis.
Proof that once again truth is stranger than fiction.
Why Was Ghost Adventures at the Zoo?
According to Oxygen, Ghost Adventures spent a week at the zoo to shoot a two-part special that will air on Travel Channel around Halloween.
Is the Tiger King’s Zoo Haunted?
Wait. What? Zak Bagans investigated the zoo? Why? Is it haunted? Cursed? Or…
This is Zak we’re talking about it. Are there demons there?
Like millions of others, I binged the hit Netflix show too, but did I miss the part about it having paranormal activity?
There was a lot of unusual activity going on there during the years Tiger King Joe Exotic owned it, but now I’m going to have to re-watch to see if anyone ever mentioned ghosts. Did you watch? Do you remember?
Who (or What) Could Be Haunting the Zoo?
Jeff Lowe says there’s a body of a Native American boy on the property.
It’s unclear how he died or when, or if this is really even true. Maybe we’ll learn more via the Ghost Adventures episode?
Then there’s the tragic case of Travis Maldonado, one of Joe Exotic’s husbands. The moment he accidentally shot himself in the head and died immediately on the property was the saddest and most chilling of the Tiger King series.
But perhaps the hauntings aren’t even human in nature. Maybe they’re one of the many animals that have died at the zoo over the years.
Or is it just haunted by bad memories and poor decisions?
Guess we’ll find out what’s up with the zoo when the Ghost Adventures episode airs.
Why the Search?
The zoo’s current owner, Jeff Lowe, believes there’s a dead body on the property.
I’m not sure whose body he thinks it is, but if there is one, it wasn’t found in the alligator pit, even though the cadaver dogs did alert their handlers to remains being there. All that was found were the bones of a small animal.
Check-In
Do you think this will be one of Ghost Adventures most popular Halloween specials yet?
It sure might be the most entertaining. Joe Exotic (or at least his spirit), Zak Bagans, Carole Baskins… What a threesome!

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
Zak will do anything for ratings. I personally do not feel this place is anymore haunted than your average zoo, but Zak will put a spin on it with some good theatrics and he’ll get some folks to jump on his band wagon.
LOL! I couldn’t agree more with you!
