The Haunted Road Answers the Call for Drive-thru Horror in the U.S.

There’s no telling how Halloween is going to look this year, but since everything has been upside down in this Twilight Zone 2020 we’re living in, I think it’s safe to say Halloween is going to look different from years past. However, that might not be such a bad thing.

As the saying goes, “necessity is the mother of invention.” Yep.

When I saw there was going to be a haunted drive-in in Tokyo, I had a feeling we’d see something similar in America. At least, I hoped we would. And yes we will.

Yesterday I saw a story from News Channel 8 in Tampa about The Haunted Road, a drive-thru Halloween experience coming to Orlando this Fall.

The Haunted Road Concept

Here’s what I found on their website to describe their concept:

Twisted creatures. Immersive theatrical storytelling. Bloodcurdling encounters.

A new, completely contactless Halloween experience is coming to Central Florida. Get ready to journey into a world of disarray as you experience Orlando’s first drive-thru Halloween event. Prepared to be haunted starting this fall.

Kind of refreshing to have a haunted road to visit instead of a haunted house, right? Especially since we’ve all had to be cooped up in ours so much this year.

Actors and Volunteers Wanted

On their Facebook page, they’ve got a call for actors and volunteers wanted, ages 18 and up.

Virtual rehearsals will start in late August.

Safety

How does one prepare a haunted house show with actors and still keep everyone safe?

One way is the virtual rehearsals.

And, of course, there’s no getting out or interacting with the actors when guests are confined to their cars.

But will people be required to park? The haunted Toyko drive-thru was a stationary event experienced in your car. The Haunted Road appears to be one you truly drive around in. How will they guarantee the actors safety?

Asking for a friend.

Oh who am I kidding? I’m asking for myself. I might be able to do a drive-in haunted attraction. However, is it anyone’s best interest to have someone like me terrified behind the wheel with my foot on the gas? Maybe not so much.

So I’m curious to hear how they’ll set up their haunt. When I learn more details, I’ll be sure to share them.

Would you go to a haunted Halloween drive-in attraction like The Haunted Road if one opened near you? (Unless, of course, you live near Orlando. Then you’ll already have access to one.)
