When my friend Kim was here a couple of weeks ago for the surprise birthday party my husband threw me, I took her to Centennial Park to show her the Parthenon. It’s really quite a spectacular sight and one I recommend anyone visiting Nashville to check out.

There’s a museum inside, but we got there at dusk, after museum hours, so we couldn’t go in. However, there was a private party going on and the doors were open so we got a chance to spot the impressive Athena statue that stands guard inside.

I thought the pics turned out sort of neat so I decided to share them for Wordless Wednesday.

  1. How did I miss this post. I love your you can back and look at these posts option on your blog because I would have missed this one entirely if it weren’t for that. I love the Parthenon in Nashville and these pictures are great. Did you see Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief? I was so mad. They set a huge scene in the Parthenon but they didn’t use any of the real Parthenon. They just called it the Parthenon in Nashville. What a waste of a really wonderful place. Your pictures show they should have shot it in the real location.

OMG! Thank youn so much! Also, SO funny you mention Percy Jackson. I just saw it last week. I loved it…except I did laugh that they didn’t use the inside of the real Parthenon. Some of the outside shots were real, but the inside was definitely NOT the Athena that’s really in there. So funny! And thanks so much for the compliment. You know how much I love your photos so this coming from you makes my day!!!!!!!!

Have you had the chance to get to Nashville, Andy? If not, and you ever come, The Pathenon is really neat. I have taken people there who were like, “The what? Yeah, sure we can go see it I guess.” I tell them I’ll just drive them by. But the 4 times I’ve done it now, each time they’ve asked me to stop so we could walk around. It’s a really neat sight.
