5 Popular Real Haunted Places That Also Have Top Halloween Haunted Houses

Okay, before I begin let me offer this disclaimer: A “real” haunted place is a tricky beast to define. As I’ve written about before, there really is no such thing as an “officially” haunted place.

However, for the purpose of this post, the places mentioned herein are ones highly regarded for reports of their paranormal activity. Therefore, they’re as close to a “real” haunted place as can be and that’s what I’m counting them as.

They also happen to have a little fun with their paranormal reputations on Halloween. If you’re an adrenaline junkie who’s looking for thrills in a real haunted place, these haunted attractions also have the reputation for being among the scary best Halloween haunts.

1. Dungeon of Horrors at West Virginia Penitentiary (a.k.a. Moundsville)

This place is so freaky and sought after by ghost hunters and paranormal enthusiasts, it’s ghost tours are already sold out for 2010! 2. Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary

When Halloween rolls around Eastern State rolls out it’s nighttime tours in the form of it’s haunted house. You’ll have to judge whether the guards or the inmates are scariest –if they let you out alive that is…

3. Fear Within at Waverly Hills

Waverly Hills is a mere three hours from where I live. It tops my list of Haunted Places I Must See Before I Die, but…it scares the hell out of me. I haven’t mustered the courage to go there yet in the light of day. Given my history (a.k.a. problems) with haunted houses, taking in Fear Within at Waverly Hills by night would surely do me in.

4. The Lemp Brewery Haunted House

The Lemp Mansion, which is known for it’s spirits, isn’t the site of this Halloween attraction. However, the Lemp legend and the brewery do take center stage. Descend via an elevator beneath the Lemp and step into its haunted caverns…

5. The Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor

The Queen Mary offers ghost tours to paranormal enthusiasts year-round, but for 18 nights in October things get a little more intense. The she-demons that haunt where the Queen Mary is docked turn Long Beach’s waters into a harbor of the damned. Once you embark, you may never disembark…
