I’m doing something a little different this Movie Monday. Rather than featuring a movie, I’m featuring a blog that reviews them. It’s called Nate’s Peer Review and it’s maintained by my friend Nate Phillips.
Nate graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Film & Video Studies. His blog reviews the work of his peers –the one’s he’s aspiring to be like…or not as the case may also be. (Depends on how he assessed the movie.)
But he doesn’t just review movies. He also reviews books, music, and opinions.
He doesn’t post his reviews frequently, but when he does he takes great care in getting directly to the point. In a brief yet thorough way, he’ll tell you the movie’s premise, what he liked about it, what he didn’t, and he’ll end with his rating assessment of the movie. (Using a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being bad and 10 being phenomenal.) In short, he’s a bing, bang, boom kind of reviewer.
During October Nate’s doing a three-part review of Halloween films. Part 1 explores some of horror’s classics. We’re talking movies like Halloween, Psycho, and, one of my personal faves, Night of the Living Dead.
Pop on over to Nate’s blog and check things out. If you happen to see anything that inspires a comment, be sure to tell him Courtney from Haunt Jaunts sent you.
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
Cool, I will check out Nate’s blog.
