During their investigation of the Cecil Hotel, the Ghost Adventures crew experienced a lot of paranormal activity. In a previous post, I shared what I thought three of the freakiest moments in the Cecil Hotel episode were. All included Patti Negri. Two involved the SLS camera detecting anomalies, the other one was caught with the full spectrum camera: a figure they spotted in the hallway. It’s still tripping me out!
But should it be? Is there a logical explanation, like maybe it was a real person? Or was it faked? Or could it be something else they didn’t even bring up on the show, like one of Richard Ramirez’s demons come to life?
Let’s start by taking a look at how they found it and move on from there.
How They Spotted the Figure in the Cecil Hotel Episode
It all started when they noticed a dark spot on the floor. What was it? One of their shadows? A stain? A smoky mist?
It didn’t make sense that it was one of their shadows for a couple of reasons. First of all, the shape. It was square and not in the form of a person.
Second, even if it could’ve come from one of them, they weren’t standing on that side of Patti.
They advanced frames and noticed something else that made them doubt it was a shadow: it wasn’t in any of the other shots. But something else was…
But before I get into that, I noticed something else when they showed the photo of the shadow mist on the floor: a foot.
The Foot
It’s not as easy to see in this image as it was to notice in the episode, but I’ve watched this part and paused it several times. A couple of times on my TV, and again and again on my computer.
You can clearly see the toe end of a black shoe, likely a man’s. But whose?
In the Ghost Adventures: Cecil Hotel episode they never point out that you can see a shoe. They skip right to something much bigger: whoever —or whatever— is wearing the shoe. (Do ghosts wear shoes? Do demons? Just in case it’s one of those things.)
Who, or What, Is That Figure?
The first thing they try to do is establish that it’s not one of them, especially not Aaron. It’s not a very clear image, but even they say at first glance they thought it might be him. However, then they explain why it’s not.
First, they say it’s because while it looks like whoever that is may have a goatee, and Aaron does, they say they all kept their masks on the whole time. That’s a little flimsy because how hard is it to pop a mask off for a second? Not very.
Then they say Aaron was behind the full spectrum camera taking pictures and show a video to prove their point.
Of course, they could have edited it to make it look that way, but I have to admit the shirts look a little different. Aaron is wearing a black one too, but the tone isn’t quite the same. That could be because the image in the shirt was taken with the full spectrum camera, though. It may have skewed the color a bit.
Here’s another shot of Aaron and his shirt.
He certainly could’ve changed shirts. Or it might not be him and could be someone else on the crew.
I’m thinking that’s the most likely scenario. Because that’s not a small man. Surely they would’ve seen a person standing there.
Or perhaps they staged it to make it seem like they suddenly caught a creepy figure standing in the hall like that?
I thought it looked a lot like Aaron. Although, it’s hard to tell because the image isn’t clear. It’s fuzzy and distorted, even when they enlarge it. Is that on purpose because it really was Aaron?
However, I also thought it looked like something else they didn’t bring up during the episode, which I was sort of surprised about. To me, it looked a lot like one of the Richard Ramirez drawings that Zak had brought along.
The Ramirez Drawings
Zak had two of Richard Ramirez’s drawings to use as possible trigger items since the Night Stalker had stayed at the hotel once upon a time.
They’re super creepy and disturbing, right?
To me, the face of the figure in the Cecil Hotel episode looks a little like the faces in those drawings. I’m not sure which one. Maybe a combo of both of them. But I’m actually leaning more to it looking like the one flipping the bird.
What do you think? Do you see more of a resemblance with Aaron or one of the Ramirez drawings? Or do you think it’s something else?
Check-In
Do you think the figure is a real person or do you think they faked it?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I don’t think the figure quite looks human. The foot in the full-figure photo seems to be pointing the wrong way, and the head isn’t lined up over the shoulders right. The head looks twisted around too far. IF it’s a real person, he’s a contortionist.:-)
Oh good grief! As if this wasn’t already creeping me out enough, that horror writer in you needs to be applauded because the description of what you see and why has now taken my freak out to new levels!!!!
