Destination Fear fans may recognize the Old Hospital on College Hill from one of its episodes. (Specifically, season 2 episode 15.) WYMT reported that the haunted hospital in West Virginia is being “resurrected” as a tourist attraction and celebrating its grand opening this month!
For those of us who didn’t catch the Destination Fear episode and are not acquainted with this haunted landmark, let’s explore its history and take a look at the plans its new owners have in mind for it.
About the Old Hospital on College Road
The hospital located in Williamson, West Virginia, opened in 1928. It served the community until 1988, when it closed. Until 2014 it was used as office space, but then sat unused and empty.
Phantom nurses and other apparitions, disembodied voices, and even the clacking of horses hooves are among the reports of paranormal activity in the hospital.
Reopening
What do you do when you have a paranormal gem in your backyard? Open it up and get it featured on the Travel Channel by way of one of their many shows, of course!
That’s what happened in 2018 when the Tug Valley Area CVB teamed up with Williamson Memorial to open the hospital for paranormal tours. Then, as stated before, it was one of the Destination Fear locations and co-owners Tonya Webb and Sabrina Hatfield saw the potential to make the Old Hospital on College Road a tourist attraction.
So that’s what Webb and Hatfield are doing.
Bloody Valentine’s Dinner & Flashlight Tour
Their first special event, a Bloody Valentine’s Dinner and Flashlight Tour, may even be a sign of what they can expect going forward. It sold out quick!
Tours & Events
Here all some of the other activities the new owners plan to offer at the Old Hospital on College Road:
- Historic and paranormal tours
- Private ghost hunts
- Flashlight tours
- Guided tours
- Photography tours
- Weddings
- Private events
(Sounds like a good place for a paracon to me!)
Tours range in price from $20 per person to $100.
Hours
Per their website, the Old Hospital on College Road is not open daily and reservations are required for a visit.

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
It’d be pretty spooky to have been an office worker in the time between 1988 and 2014!
Oooo! I never thought about it like that!
Id go to a Ghost Hunt anywhere with Courtney!
LOL! Let’s go!!!!
