One thing I said I would do as part of the HJ Spooktacular Halloween Blog Party was a costume contest. One of my blogging pals and a V.I.P. Guest, Chris the Frog Queen from Frog on the Pumpkin, wrote how she was curious to see how I was going to pull off a costume contest.

Honestly, I was curious myself.

This is what I came up with. It came to me as I was looking at costumes for other posts I’ve written this season. Inevitably I’d see costumes that made me think of friends, including my online paranormal pals.

That’s how I got the idea to do a Halloween costume recommendations post –which also seemed like the perfect forum for a costume contest.

I decided to use my online paranormal pals as “models.” (Including poor Chris the Frog Queen, who had no idea I’d play such a trick and incorporate her into my hijinks!)

HOW IT WORKS

First comes my suggestions for costumes I think my paranormal pals would look good in. Next comes the contest part –and where you come in.

Cast your “votes” in the comments section. Whoever gets the most votes in the different categories wins the bragging rights for that title!

The categories you have to choose from are:

  • Best Male
  • Best Female
  • Favorite Overall

Cast a vote in all the categories or just whichever you want. You can pick the same costume for more than one category. For instance, if you think a certain costume is both your favorite male and favorite overall, feel free to nominate it thusly!

THE SUGGESTIONS AND THE CONTESTANTS

The first three suggestions are for ladies who are all my online BFFs and partners in crime. To borrow one of Mommy D’s words, it’s not uncommon to find us in “cahoots” with one another. (And as I put it “A gaggle of trouble cakes is what we are!”) Hopefully they’ll like my costume suggestions for them and still want to be in cahoots with me after this!

This Mummy Mama Adult Costume brought Mommy D of the Weekly Spectre to mind. One because it has the word “mom” in it, and two because of some cookies she made this season. (One which sort of looked like a mummy that she named after me!)

Like me, Jessica Penot of Ghost Stories and Haunted Places is also nuts about zombies. While I kind of liked the Zombie Prom Queen costume for her, I decided on the Masquerade Ball Queen Costume instead. It just reminded me way too much of the groovy graphics gracing her blog.

Then there’s Linda Moffitt, who loves trapeze. This Burlesque Baby Adult Women’s Costume seemed like a great pick for her. Kind of had a circus-y feel to it.

But I also have some online male BFFs and partners in crime. The next four picks are for the boys who always have my back!

Chad from Chateau Grrr also goes by the handle “the Cyrpt Kicker.” When I saw this Crypt Creature Gauze Mask I immediately thought of him.

Jason of The Occult Section has small children. I think until they get older he’d want to go tame on Halloween, yet still have fun. I saw this Sesame Street The Count Adult Costumeand thought it’d be a fun pick for him.

I had to pick the Mystic Sorcerer Costumefor Nathan from A State of Mind. He’s all about psychic powers and such!

I don’t know what it is, but Aaron Sagers of Paranormal Pop Culture always rocks this suave and debonair vibe. That’s why I think he’d make a dashing Midnight Vampire.

The next picks are for online pals who thrive on the paranormal too. Some have blogs, some don’t, but they’re all good folks to talk paranormal shop with and follow.  (Their blogs and sites all have links to where you can find them on Twitter and Facebook.)

I’m sure Chris of Frog on the Pumpkin has equally amazing costumes to match her incredible yard. Still, when I saw the Skeleton Bride Womens Costume I thought of her because it looked like a character that might haunt that spooktacular graveyard of hers.

Everytime I saw sexy costumes, Autumnforest of Ghost Hunting Theories came to mind. She’s all about the sexy. She’s also very earthy. (It’s why she goes by the handle she does!) That’s why my pick for her is the Sexy Forest Nymph Costume.

I didn’t think it was possible for anyone to love all things Scooby Doo as much as me until I met Julie of Above the Norm. That’s why the obvious choice for her is the Daphne Costume.

I don’t know why, but Jackie from Ghost Lounge always strikes me as very ethereal. I liked the Gossamer Ghost Costume for her. It’s simple, yet elegant. Substantial without being overstated –just like Jackie!

Andrea of Ghost Stories has got a sort fun, sick streak. That’s why I can see her pulling off something like the Sweeney Todd Mrs. Lovett Costume.

Peter Fenton from Ask Doc Paranormal oftens makes me LOL. When I saw this BP Bad Planning Adult CostumeI definitely LOLed…and thought this was a costume Peter might appreciate. Bloody funny! (Pun totally intended!)

Javier of GhostTheory covers a lot of great paranormal occurences, from ghosts to UFOs, but I do believe Bigfoot is one of favorite topics. I saw a Big Footcostume but thought that might be too obvious a choice for him. That’s why my pick for him is the Abominable Snowman Costume.

I’m just getting to know Merricat of Blackwood. I learned of her thanks to the Halloween Blog Party. But it was one of those things where I really dug her blog right off. From the preliminary impression I have of her so far, she strikes me as a Spiderweb Ghost Costume kind of gal.

Joey and Michelle of Guy & Girl Travels love incorporating food and history into their travels. They also like a good beer. That’s why I thought of them when I saw the Grand Heritage Tavern Wench Adult Costume and the Inn Keeper Men’s Costume. And of course their dog Lil’ Bob Barker would need a costume to coordinate with theirs so why not Robin Hood?

Lisa of Wanderlust Women loves Italy. Therefore, the logical choice for her was the Venetian Fantasy Adult Costume.

When I think of Rori of RoriTravel’s Florida I think of Disney. (Because she lives in Orlando.) My favorite Disney costume this season was the Theatrical Quality Queen of Hearts Adult Costume. I can see Rori in that.

Steve of Paranormal Research Groups is a gem of a guy. He’s one of those that looks like a tough guy (and is), but he also has a heart of gold. He’s been a fave of mine ever since he forgave me for screwing up his Twitter handle on #FFs for weeks in a row. This Demented Dummy Ventriloquist Costume was one of my fave mens costumes this season. I think if anyone could do it justice, Steve could.

I was torn on picks for Steve and Angie of Ghost Eyes. I can see them doing their own thing (meaning not coordinating costumes as a couple), but they also both have a good sense of humor. That’s why I ultimately thought if anyone could pull off Thing One and Thing Two, they could!

I don’t really know him all that well yet, but something tells me Joshua of Rocket City Paranormal (who also writes the blog Life of a Ghost Hunter) would look for something slightly sinister and morbid in a costume along the lines of the Headless Man Costume.

I can see Ray of Southern Ghosts in something like an Addams Family Uncle Fester Costume. He just strikes me as the Fester type –sort of warped, yet fun and lovable and always well meaning.
