The drama series One Tree Hill sometimes included plotlines that touched on true crime (ie. attempted murders, stalkers, and hostage situations). However, one of its leads, Chad Michael Murray, pretty much stuck to playing the “good son” Lucas Scott. He then went on to other roles, including Edgar Evernever, the charismatic but with creepy intentions new age guru, in Riverdale. Did that part help prep him for one of his darkest yet? He plays the title character in Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman.
The movie was released nationwide on over 750 screens on August 16. The US VOD and DVD release happen on September 3, 2021. (See the “For More Info” section below for a list of the VOD platforms you can watch on.)
Let’s take a look at what Ted Bundy: American Boogeyman is about, who else is in it, and exactly where you’ll be able to watch it.
Storyline
A specter roams the highways of a gritty and decadent 1970s America, hunting for his next prey—his name is Ted Bundy. Tracking him down are the intrepid female detective Kathleen McChesney, working out of the Seattle Police bureau, and rookie FBI profiler Robert Ressler, the government agent who coined the term “serial killer.” This is the true story behind the manhunt that brought America’s most fearsome boogeyman to justice.
Cast & Crew
In addition to Chad Michael Murray (House Of Wax, The Haunting In Connecticut 2: Ghosts Of Georgia), the movie also stars Holland Roden (Escape Room 2, Teen Wolf) as “Kathleen McChesney;” Jake Hays as “Robert Ressler;” Lin Shaye (Insidious franchise, The Grudge, Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels) as “Mrs. Bundy;” and Olivia DeLaurentis (Apocalypse Goals) as Bundy survivor “Carol DaRonch.”
Daniel Farrands wrote and directed the project.

Check-In
Do you think Bundy is America’s most notorious serial killer or among the most notorious?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I wish Bundy was the most notorious serial killer in the US, but I fear he’s just one of the worst. I can’t imagine being an actor and playing a role so dark. I wonder if it gave Murray nightmares.
I agree with you about Bundy. He’s a baddy and one of the worst, but…there are others not so great either. And I was thinking something very similar about Murray! How do you get your head in the game to portray a real-life soul like this? A fictional villain is one thing, but this… how do they prepare? And do they need counseling? Does it give them nightmares?
