Most libraries offer books about ghosts and the paranormal, but one library in Massachusetts is taking it to a new level. Especially for those interested in doing more than just reading about spooky stuff. For those interested in investigating, the Southwick Public Library in Southwick, MA, now provides ghost hunting equipment to check out.
Which is nice because a lot of people are curious to give ghost hunting a try. However, investing in gadgets is risky. Not to mention expensive. If funds are tight, it’s hard to justify the expense. Especially if you don’t know whether you’ll like it or not.
But thanks to the Southwick Public Library, Southwick residents who are 18 years and older and who are also library card holders can now check out a ghost hunting kit. It consists of all the basics, including a digital thermometer, electromagnetic field detector, three walkie-talkies, and a voice recorder.
What does that save you? It’d been a while since I priced equipment, so I went on Amazon to check it out. I’m sure the infrared gun is the same one in the Southwick Public Library’s kit. I’m not sure the rest of this equipment is the same, but it’s close. All told, checking out the gear saves you from spending about $170.
KIZEN Infrared Thermometer Gun – $24.99
Motorola T200TP Talkabout Radio, 3 Pack – $65
ERICKHILL EMF Meter, Rechargeable Digital Electromagnetic Field Radiation Detector Hand – $39.99
EVISTR 16GB Digital Voice Recorder – $39.99
There’s only one kit, but maybe if it turns out to be popular they’ll add more. (And maybe it’s a good way to get people in the library?) One other thing you can check out with the kit if you need some pointers is Zak Bagan’s Ghost Hunting for Dummies.
Check-In
Would you check out ghost hunting equipment if your library offered it?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
OMGosh, yes, I’d check out the ghost hunting equipment if our library had it! It’d be fun and interesting!
Southwick, Massachusetts, here I come! (Joking! Well, I would actually move to Massachusetts in a heartbeat if I had the $$$!)
I would be all over this as an adult but as a kid? I would’ve BEGGED my parents to please check out the kit! lol
I don’t know if I could hack the winters in MA but I’d LOVE to try! SO pretty up there and SO much history! But like you said…if it just wasn’t so darn pricy! lol
