It’s one thing when art imitates life, but the results are often spectacularly disturbing when the reverse is true. That’s the case with the four college students who were brutally murdered in Moscow, Idaho, on Nov. 13, 2022. It was like something out of a slasher horror movie, especially when the killer at first appeared to allude capture. But then he was identified, caught, and all that remained were the questions, including “How could someone do something like that?” and “Why?” That’s what Investigation Discovery’s new special, The Idaho College Murders, will explore.
The hour-long special premieres on Sunday, March 12 at 10/9c. It will also be available to stream the same day on discovery+.
As ID is known for doing, The Idaho College Murders will offer a critical, new perspective into the night of terror in Moscow, Idaho, that claimed the lives Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Madison Mogen.
The special takes viewers into the close-knit college community and on the ground in Moscow. The Idaho College Murders also retraces the crime and the possible activities of the police’s primary suspect in custody, Ph.D. student Bryan Kohberger.
The comprehensive special will also dig deeper into recent evidence, as well as introduce theories around the crime itself and the subsequent legal proceedings. Investigative journalists and criminal experts offering insights, include former C.S.I and forensic expert Alina Burroughs, host of ID’s Crime Scene Confidential, and former Brooklyn prosecutor and legal expert Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi, previously host of ID’s True Conviction.
As the special unfolds, some of true crime’s leading voices will try to answer the question on everyone’s mind: How did this happen?

What question(s) have haunted you about the Idaho College Murders case?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
Since the killer had taken criminal justice classes (or something to that effect), I wonder if the professors could sense anything off about him.
Ooooo! What a great question, Priscilla! Now I want to know about that too!
