Tobin Bell returns as John Kramer in Saw X

Holy Jigsaw, Batman. Have there really been eight sequels in the Saw franchise? Apparently so, because Saw X, the ninth one buzzes its way into theaters on September 29.

We don’t know much about it yet, but we do know Tobin Bell is reprising his role as John Kramer.

“Wait. Didn’t he die in Saw III?” you may be wondering.

Check you out, knowing your Saw movies. Yes. He was killed at the end of Saw III, and has appeared in flashbacks in subsequent sequels. In order to resurrect him, they’re backtracking in time, as the synopsis below explains.

Kevin Greutert, who directed Saw VI and Saw 3D, returns to direct this film too. Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, the duo who crafted the story and wrote Jigsaw and Spiral, do the same for Saw X. It’s also once again produced by Mark Burg and Oren Koules, who have produced all of the other Saw movies.

Let’s take a gander at what we know about it so far.

John Kramer (Tobin Bell) is back. The most disturbing installment of the Saw franchise yet explores the untold chapter of Jigsaw’s most personal game. Set between the events of Saw I and II, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer – only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Armed with a newfound purpose, the infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged, and ingenious traps.
