Screambox recently revealed the films joining the horror streaming service in October. They include horror comedies like Shaky Shivers and HeBGB TV, the documentary More Brains! A Return to the Living Dead, and a classic fave Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, inspired by real-life serial killers Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Toole.
But that’s just scratching the surface of what’s on Screambox this month. Let’s explore some of their featured titles, including the ones mentioned above, as well as other October highlights.
More Brains! – October 3
Screambox Exclusive
More Brains! A Return to the Living Dead joins Screambox’s extensive collection of horror documentaries. It explores the creation of The Return of the Living Dead. Cast and crew interviewed include stars Clu Gulager, James Karen, Don Calfa, Thom Mathews, and Linnea Quigley, Night of the Living Dead co-creator John A. Russo, and the final interview with director Dan O’Bannon.
HeBGB TV – October 13
Screambox Exclusive
The horror-comedy HeBGB TV has been described as a “hyperactive anthology about a multidimensional cable box,” and has drawn comparisons to Pee Wee’s Playhouse, Goosebumps, Ricky & Morty, and I Think You Should Leave. (It looks totally trippy!)
Shaky Shivers – October 17
Screambox Original
Embark on a campy night of werewolves, zombies, and ice cream in the ’80s-inspired directorial debut of Fast & Furious franchise favorite Sung Kang.
Door – October 24
Screambox Exclusive
Door had never been screened outside of its native Japan prior to Fantastic Fest last month. The newly-remastered 1988 home invasion film ratchets tension until its depraved finale.
Help! My In-Laws Are Vampires – October 31
Screambox Exclusive
Celebrate Halloween with the Italian horror-comedy that follows in the tradition of The Munsters and The Addams Family. (Looks fun!)
Other Screambox October Highlights
Other October 2023 highlights include:
- Transgressive horror staple Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer starring Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy)
- Willow Creek, a found footage Bigfoot movie directed by Bobcat Goldthwait
- Boundary-pushing liminal horror Landlocked
- Emelie, a pulse-pounding thriller about a psychotic babysitter
- Possum, a psychological nightmare starring Sean Harris (Prometheus)

Check-In
How many of these movies have you seen but want to again, or have never seen but would like to?
Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
