Send A Cake Enchanted Halloween Spell Book: Was it enchanting?

I don’t remember where I first saw an ad for Send A Cake, but I was instantly intrigued. Even more so after I sent one to a friend who said, “I wish I’d recorded that. I had no idea stuff was going to come flying out at me!” (They advise warning the recipient it’s going to happen, which I didn’t that first time.)

“Stuff flying out” is part of their schtick.  Not only do you get a little cake in the mail, but also butterflies. Not real ones. They’re little plastic toys that “fly” out of the box when you open it.

Another friend was celebrating a big birthday at the start of October. I decided a fun way to celebrate that was to gift her a Send A Cake, too. That’s when I discovered their Halloween cake boxes, with names like “Spooky Explosion,” “Tricks & Treats,” and a “Monster” box. They even had a Halloween donut tower.

But the one I decided to get was the “Enchanted Halloween Spell Book.” That way, I could reuse the book and incorporate it into my Halloween decorations for years to come. Plus, it offered six bite-sized cakes to sample. That would be enough to share with Wayne and even Smalls! And instead of butterflies, it had “bats.”

How was it? Did the bats flutter up and out as advertised? And how did the cake taste? Was it any good? Here are my thoughts about this company’s fun product, which is not one of my affiliates. I just wanted to try them out, so I did.

First, let’s start with screenshots from their site of the Enchanted Halloween Spell Book for a point of comparison. I admit, I totally fell for the product staging with the foggy cauldron scene.

But the description got me, too. Sounded fun. Or, as they termed it on their site, “Mystically magnificent.”

This enchantingly adorned book is covered in a shimmering bewitching design. Upon opening they’ll be surprised with a Halloween display of fluttering bats, flashing lights and mystical music! Flip through four pages of fun Halloween quotes to reveal six individual compartments with cake bites in the back.

The cakes looked interesting too. Or, rather, sounded interesting with flavors that included Spooky S’mores, Shrieking Strawberry, Scaredy-Cat Confetti, Lemon Boo-berry, Vampire Velvet, and Double Double Chocolate Trouble.

The IRL Enchanted Halloween Spell Book

The sweet tooth in me can’t believe I’m saying this, but it wasn’t the cakes I was most interested in trying. It was the bats! Would they really fly? And how forcefully would it happen? Would they fly all the way to the ceiling? How long would they stay afloat?

The only way to satisfy my curiosity was to gift myself a Halloween Send A Cake. (Bats flew out of the other ones too, but in some cases, a spider also dropped down from certain boxes. I thought that might be too creepy for Wayne.)

The Book

The bats definitely “fluttered,” but I wouldn’t say they “flew.” A couple of them did a little bit, but “flopped around” is a better term that comes to mind.

Not that they were a flop. They were still fun, but not as “exuberant” as I’d expected. That said, even though we were expecting them, they still startled both Wayne and I. (Not Smalls. He was ready to catch them all!)

The thing that surprised me most was the lights and music. I read it in the description, but for whatever reason, it didn’t register. The moment I flipped the cover and the book “came to life,” it caught me off guard. But in a good way.

The pages of the book contained more content that I expected also. That was fun. (Story time for Smalls!)

The Cake

The cake compartments also surpised me. I didn’t realize they’d be punch outs. For some reason I had it my head they were hinged compartments.

As for the cake, it looked different from what was on the website. Which is I guess to be expected to a degree. And not that it was that far off either. But online the cakes were nestled “naked” in their compartments, but they arrived wrapped. Which I guess is good, because the compartments are paper. There’d be no way to clean them sufficiently.

But I was a little put off by the wrapping. It reminded me of Little Debbie cake products or somehting. Luckily they didn’t taste like them, though. Not that there’s anything wrong with Little Debbies. They’re okay, but I was hoping for something more sophisticated taste-wise. Send A Cake didn’t disappoint.

I tried the Double Double Chocolate, Scaredy-Cat Confetti, and Spooky S’mores. (In that order.) The confetti was my least favorite. The cake part was good, but I wasn’t a fan of it’s icing. But the Double Double Chocolate was my absolute favorite, followed by the S’mores. Wow. Talk about a moist, rich, decadent chocolate explosion in my mouth.

  1. I love chocolate. I’d have to go with double double chocolate. The folks behind Send a Cake are obviously fun-loving and creative!

A fellow chocolate lover! lol The double double was so good I’d like to order a whole cake just of that. Or just a little mini cake because I don’t really need all those calories but the taste…wickedly scrumptious!
