I have been wanting to see Frozen for a while now. The other night I came across it on one of the movie channel listings on On Demand. Whoa! What a perfect movie for this time of year. (Although, I supposed it’d also make a good choice for summer when you might want to cool off with images of cooler climes.)
I was hoping to enjoy it, but I gotta admit. My expectations and tolerance for movies is pretty low anymore. It’s bad enough very few movie plots surprise me anymore. I always guess where they’re going or what’s coming next. But it’s gotten so bad anymore I can even predict which lines are coming next. That’s just sad.
That’s why I think I liked Frozen as much as I did. My husband felt the plot scenario was a little too far-fetched, lost interest and tuned out. (But that’s pretty typical for him.) I, however, was willing to suspend disbelief and see where the Frozen led me.
Wow. It took me to some places I was not expecting to go. I did not see a few things coming –both plot twists and lines. That helped make for an enjoyable viewing experience.
The actors also did a phenomenal job. And the suspense…I was pleasantly uncomfortable from the second they got stuck on the chairlift to the very last scene. (I’m not going to give away any spoilers. I didn’t know anything about the movie except for the premise. In case that’s the same with whoever reads this I don’t want to taint their viewing experience by giving anything away.)
I found a review on Amazon that both sums up the movie and expresses how I felt about the performances. I was intrigued the reviewer singled out Emma Bell’s performance too. Haunting. She’s devastatingly beautiful and judging from this movie amazingly talented. I hope she lands some more primo roles in the future. She’s an actress I’d like to see go big.
Snow-sport enthusiasts, take note: Adam Green’s unsettling thriller Frozen suggests that abiding by the rules and regulations of your local ski resort might not only be polite, but essential to your health. Green’s hapless heroes–nice guy Dan (Kevin Zegers, Transamerica), his best pal Lynch (Shawn Ashmore, the X-Men franchise), and Dan’s new girlfriend Parker (newcomer Emma Bell)–decided to cut a few corners in pursuit of more time on the slopes. Miscommunication with the staff results in the trio getting stuck on a lift some 60 feet in the air just moments before the resort closes for a three-day weekend. The hope for rescue soon dwindles, and the trio faces the decision to either endure the elements or somehow make their way to the ground without injury. All of the gruesome possibilities inherent to the situation–from frostbite and broken limbs to a pack of voracious wolves–are explored in unpleasant detail, but what sets Frozen apart from a simple splatterfest is the quality of the performances, especially Bell, who rises above her character’s initial superficiality to present a wholly sympathetic character. ~Excerpt from Paul Gaita’s Amazon.com Editorial Review~

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
LOL, Jack. Nice pun! I do believe it is out on video. I’ll be curious to hear what you think if you find it.
Lucky. You have an insider!
I just watched it tonight. I remember seeing the commercials now. I rented it from blockbusters and can purchase for $1.90. Not sure I’ll watch it again though. Hard decisions. It did have me squirming for a minute or two. I think it was the wolv
Being stuck somewhere in a carriage for three days sounds like an average trip on British trains. I heard the best excuse ever today for a train running late. The announcer said they were experiencing delays because of DEW on the tracks. I thought their previous excuse of leaves on the track was bad enough…but DEW. Seems if we want to make a journey by train we will have to phone the weather people in case of mild drizzle.
JoAnne…it had me squirmming. I’d freeze to death before I took my chances getting eaten by wolves! That disturbed me greatly. Also, I can’t believe the wolves would really do that but…if they were hungry enough. All I know is if they would eat people and they saw me they’d think, “Score!”
Dave: LOL! At least they were trapped INSIDE away from the elements. Still, that would suck. I could see that being a horrifying experience. And dew just adds insult to injury! You’d think that wouldn’t phase trains over there!
Hey Jack! I’m excited to hear what both you and your sister have to say about the movie.
