I can’t help it. I’m obsessed with April. Specifically, the doom and chaos that seems to accompany it.
Please Don’t Take Offense
Last year when I shared my view that April is a cursed month it put a lot of people off. I can see why some people with birthdays and anniversaries in that month were a little taken aback. April is a time of happy memories and celebrations for them. They didn’t appreciate me suggesting that everything that happens in April is bad or cursed.
I sure didn’t mean to imply that. I was definitely not trying to suggest that “If it happens in April, it’s tainted.” Not at all.
My point, which I still maintain, is that very bad historic things happen in April. We’re talking upsets from the start of the Civil War and the Great San Francisco Earthquake to Chernobyl, the Columbine Massacre, and the sinking of Titanic. (Just to name a few.)
Not that all disasters, catastrophes and tragedies are limited to April. Every month has seen it’s share. My theory (which I would like to explore further one day) is that April has a bit more than its fair share.
Hate to Say It, But “I told you so!”
Due to certain astrological alignments that were going on last year (mainly Mercury retrograde, along with Saturn returning to Virgo), I suspected April was going to be a rough one.
Guess what? It was.
Over on my other little personal blog I listed some of the catastrophes last April brought. The two biggest ones you may recall involved the Icelandic volcano erupting and the BP Soil spill in the Gulf. (But there were others, too.)
All those people who poo poo’d me as nuts (many of whom, interestingly enough call themselves “psychics”) wrote at some juncture last year to say, “Huh. You know, I didn’t see X, Y, or Z coming, but you figured there’d be mayhem and there was. Sorry I called you paranoid/nuts/FILL IN THE BLANK (there were plenty of other names I was called) like I did.”
No worries. It’s not exactly one of those things I’m happy to be right about, you know?
APRIL 2011
Will April showers bring only May flowers, or are we going to get dumped on again this year?
Guess what? Mercury retrograde is once again kicking off the start of April. (Mercury went retrograde yesterday, March 30, actually.)
Why is that significant? Mercury governs communications and is known as “the universal trickster.” When it goes retrograde, everything gets all goofed up. Astrology on the Web! sums it up best:
As a rule, planets are more emphatic during their retrograde phases, marking periods of seemingly inevitable or fated events that relate to their spheres of influence….
Mercury retrograde gives rise to personal misunderstandings; flawed, disrupted, or delayed communications, negotiations and trade; glitches and breakdowns with phones, computers, cars, buses, and trains. And all of these problems usually arise because some crucial piece of information, or component, has gone astray or awry.
But complicating Mercury retrograde this year is the fact that is goes retro “in the shadow of the mighty opposition between the two Great Chronocrators, or Time Lords, Saturn and Jupiter.”
Gulp! That does not sound promising at all.
But wait, that’s not all. There’s more:
It also marks the beginning of the tropical zodiac, which is why it is often called the Aries Point. This critical zone has been stimulated and restimulated in recent months by the inexorable movement of the outer planets: extravagant Jupiter (by conjunction), restrictive Saturn (by opposition), disruptive Uranus (by conjunction) and obstructive Pluto (by square). It’s phenomenally massive in its effect.
Do you know what that all means? I do. T-R-O-U-B-L-E!
I Predict…
Lately the news has been focused on the unrest and violence in Libya and other Middle East countries, but I’ve been watching the situation with Japan’s nuclear reactors. All I kept thinking was, “Please let them get all that under control before April hits. It’s got the potential to be another Chernobyl –or worse– if they don’t.”
I don’t know exactly what will happen. I can’t “see” the future. My abilities are only good at interpreting signs.
And all signs point at major chaos coming. From here until April 23, when Mercury turns direct again. (Well, actually until May 11. That’s when Mercury is fully “released” and passes the point where it first went retrograde. Things will “get back to normal” –or a new version thereof– after that.)
My advice is: Brace yourself. We’ve got a bumpy road ahead for the next few weeks.

Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
I used to like April LOL
Aw, it’s not a bad month. I’m just giving it a bad rap. It’s a perfectly fine month. Brings warmer weather and flowers. Just sometimes other stuff happens then too…
I had never really thought about all those historic disasterous events you list like Titanic, Chernobyl, etc, all happening in the month of April before. Kinda freaky.
It really is. And there are a slew of them, which makes it even more disturbing. At least to me. But I could be seeing something that’s not really there. That’s why I’d like to do a study and see which month truly has the most disasters.
This is a classic case of the confirmation bias
