A few weeks back, HorrorAddict.net’s Horror Hostess, Emerian “Emz” Rich, joined me on the podcast. We talked about what’s coming in Horror Addicts 15th season of their podcast, new book releases they’ve got planned, and more. But Emerian also had some work to do. Namely, unboxing the Gothic horror mystery box I sent her from Ghoulish Goodies.
Check out our interview with Kevin, the Head Ghoul of Ghoulish Goodies.
HorrorAddicts.net Season 15: Cursed Cubed
The last two seasons HorrorAddicts.net has done a “cursed” theme, including cursed objects and cursed places.
Emz is making them do one more cursed season: a warnings one for how not to get cursed. Warnings include things like,
- Don’t go on a ship with the girl who survived three shipwrecks. Your chances of having issues are high. Unless you want that, just don’t do it.
- Don’t stand next to Roy, the man who holds the record for surviving multiple lightning strikes. Clearly he’s a magnet and is somehow surviving, but you may not be so lucky.
I wondered if Emz just really has a thing for curses. No.
It’s actually because of a song. The HorrorAddicts.net team picks a theme song for three seasons. A couple of years ago they picked Valentine Wolf’s “This Place is Cursed.” So this is the last season for them to use it.
I love that they found a way to explore the theme of curses from all these angles.
The new season starts April 18. Here are the curses they’ll cover with the dates the episodes drop:
- 4/18: The Terracotta Army
- 5/2: Sigurd the Mighty
- 5/16: Henry Ziegland
- 6/6: Roy Sullivan
- 6/20: The Dybbuk Box
- 7/4: James Dean’s Little Bastard
- 7/25: Evil Child
- 8/8: The Wicked Phone Number
- 8/22: Violet Jessop
- 9/5: The Basano Vase
- 9/19: Robert Todd Lincoln
- 10/3: Ramon Artagaveyita
- 10/17: The Most Cursed
But in addition to featuring a curse each episode, they’ll also feature an author, music and a movie that they discuss.
You can check out their entire upcoming season on their site at http://horroraddicts.net/.
HorrorAddicts.net Books
In addition to their podcast, and blog, HorrorAddicts.net also puts out anthologies.
The newest one is due out in May, Dark Diviniations.
But they’ve also got another one in progress (with a current call for submissions if you’re a writer), Haunts and Hellions.
The Ghoulish Goodies Gothic Box Unboxing
I had so much fun unboxing the Ghoulish Goodies boxes I sent to my A Haunt Mess Podcast co-hosts, Deedee and Sara, that I knew I wanted to do the same for Emz. Ever since I first wrote about Ghoulish Goodies, the Gothic box had always caught my eye. I knew just who I’d give it to: Emz!
So I did.
Here’s just two of the great things she found in her box. (Out of like 50. And these weren’t even her favorites. Well, the light up haunted baby doll’s head might’ve been among her favorites, but there were a few other things she really liked too.)

Courtney Mroch is a globe-trotting restless spirit who’s both possessed by wanderlust and the spirit of adventure, and obsessed with true crime, horror, the paranormal, and weird days. Perhaps it has something to do with her genes? She is related to occult royalty, after all. Marie Laveau, the famous Voodoo practitioner of New Orleans, is one of her ancestors. (Yes, really! As explained here.) That could also explain her infatuation with skeletons.
Speaking of mystical, to learn how Courtney channeled her battle with cancer to conjure up this site, check out HJ’s Origin Story.
