One of the weird dates I have listed on the Weird Holidays & Observances page is October 19: Michael Myers Birthday. You know, the homicidal maniac in the Halloween movie franchise?

“He has a birthday?” you may be wondering. (I know I did when I learned about it.)

According to his Fandom wiki, he was born October 19, 1957.

Birthdays are always a good excuse for party time, right? So is Halloween. This year, Michael Myer’s birthday coincides with the annual Halloween Bash at the Myers House – North Carolina.

The Myers House NC

The Myers House that was in the Halloween (1978) movie is located in a neighborhood in South Pasadena, California. But a devoted fan, Kenny Caperton, built an exact replica in Hillsborough, North Carolina.

Well, the front exterior is an exact replica. There are some differences on the inside.

Apparently the original house was built in 1888, so it was missing a couple elements us modern folks take for granted. Like a kitchen and bathrooms.

Kenny added those, but made the bedrooms a bit bigger and also added a laundry room.

However, according to the About page on the Myers House North Carolina website, “…the important elements from the movie – Judith’s bedroom, the hallways, staircase, and the basic locations of the kitchen, dining room, and living room are in the same places.”

Another difference is the decor and style.

Since the house is not just a replica project and is actually a primary place of residence, the house has modern appliances and is decorated in more of a rustic farmhouse/Victorian inspired look …and of course has tons of vintage Halloween decorations and Horror memorabilia throughout.

Here’s a few shots of the house from the Photo page of the website:

Annual Halloween Bash

Kenny throws a Halloween party at his house every year.

There’s costumes, bonfires, food trucks, jack-o-lanterns, tricks, treats, raffles and movies (this year it’s Pumpkinhead and two movies from the Halloween franchise.)

Also new this year he’s offering tent camping on his property. (But it sold out fast.)

Tickets are available via a Myers House NC club membership.

Judging from the photos on the Myers House NC Facebook page, people go all out with their costumes, bringing to life iconic characters from classic horror movies. Here’s a few examples from last year’s bash:

But this year the event is happening on Michael Myers’ birthday, which makes it just a little more fun.  Wonder what kind of cake Michael likes…if he even likes cake.

How many times have you seen the original Halloween movie?

I’ve probably watched it two dozen times. (If not more. Two dozen is a bit of a conservative guesstimate.) It’s a Halloween time staple in my house, so sometimes I watch it multiple times during the season. (Or at least have it playing.)

However, once upon a time it would creep me out so much I couldn’t watch it alone. (Now? No problem.) But back in my teens and 20s? Forget it.

Have you ever had a movie like that? One you couldn’t watch by yourself?

  1. I couldn’t watch Halloween by myself, either. Blair Witch comes close to that level of scare for me, but now that I’m older I can handle both of them (a little) better.
